Hi everyone,

I was just wondering how much a brand new/factory fresh CPS3 3rd Strike full kit would be worth?

I know used ones go for around US$350.00 and thats with no artwork.

I may come across a couple of new kits sometime in the future.

Kind regards, :)

I've been told that the batteries on 3rd strike will need replacing this year so buy with caution.

More Ram. I have NG and I know that when I buy SF3 TS, I will want the whole thing.

@RGP: Thanks for the head's up. That shit scares me... ugh, stupid battery suicides.

The thought of getting a brand new 3rd strike kit gives me an extreme boner, but the thought of it doing suddenly for no good reason makes limp quicker than the thought of Rosanne Barr getting a barium enema.

Does anyone even know how to repair the suicide batteries on a third strike board?

Man, why the fuck would Capcom do something like this ... :oh_no:

I heard you have to change the battery with the power switched on, you don't anytime at all unlike with cps2 :crying:

Hmmm ... that sounds a little dangerous. So you'd have to solder with the board plugged in, or does the battery pop out?

Despite the whole battery thing, this is still a very tempting offer from a great seller.

I have come up with a selling price of US$685.00 + shipping for a brand new SF3: 3rd Strike CPS3 kit.

I know this is quite expensive, so if you are interested then please let me know.

Kind regards, :)

As far as I know, you can't repair the battery once it is death, you have to swap it (with the procedure RGP mentioned) while it is still alive. If the battery dies before you replace it, then the game is death.

Well, they did in order to prevent bootleggers and emus that killed the MVS. Capcom doesn't give 2 fucks about home users of 6 years old arcade games.

So how do you know when it's going to die? Do you have to test it with multi meter or something to make sure that it's holding the proper voltage? Fucking Capcom, man, I swear ... :oh_no:

How does it prevent bootlegs?

You actually never know when your boards will die. So you're pretty much taking
a chance. I heard if you change batteries to your CPS-2 boards every four yrs, you
should be fine. It's a big risk IMO. Any board could be dead tomorrow or
anytime for that matter. I've heard of people who have owned CPS-2 for more
than 6 yrs and they keep on going. Also the longer you play them, the longer
they live. Now, some of them can be fixed to be 'inmortal' but only some of them.
I don't know about CPS-3, since there's really not much info on the net, or
at least any that I know of, other than Razoola's site, and the Dead battery
society website.

The best counter measure against suicide battery is to change them out ASAP. This goes for both CPS-2 and 3.

However, with CPS-2,if your board should arrive DOA ,you can send the eprom chips off to Razoola for resurrection.

I would pay top dollar for a NEW 3rd Strike kit however with this battery issue it really turns me of it. I mean, imagine buying it then a week later the battery dies...that is really just f'ed up. Hopefully someone out there can come up with something or some way to fix this issue as with the CPS2 boards.

As far as I know, that type of batteries just keep the same voltage level right until they die, so there's no way to know how much life is left in one, other than approximate estimates based on the age of the game, that can also be affected by the time the game has been powered on. Just to be safe, the best thing to do is swap the battery upon arrival, and then keep swapping it after each fixed amount of time (say a few years).

Well, first of all have you ever seen a CPS2 or 3 bootleg? In order to make a bootleg first the game has to be dumped and then decrypted, but since the encryptation code dies if you attempt to do such thing, you just can't get it working. Only a genius like Razoola managed to figure out how to decrypt the CPS2 data, and that was by the end of the CPS2 arcade life.
As I said, the commercial life of an arcade board is quite short (shorter than the battery life), so Capcom doesn't give 2 shits about what happens after it, as long as nobody can cut their profits with a bootlegs during that time. And take care that if you are a legitimate arcade operator and your board dies, Capcom will fix it for you.
