I have a question; will you fry :very_ang: a european 220V PS2 when you plug it into a 110V plug without using a converter (ofcourse with a travel plug...I am not forcing the plug into the socket  ). I am asking this because the powersupply provided with the new PS2 is external and for other external devices I only need a travelplug in order for it to work correctly (i.e. my digital camera and my camcorder). If it is the case, once it is fried, what needs to be replaced and how much do you think it will cost? If it isnt fried, all the better! If I am not clear, please tell me, Ill rephrase my question...

Thank you guys so much. This tech support is one of the best out there on the net, no questions asked.

Glad to be a NEO freak!!!!!
Cheers!

If you accidentaly plugged it in and it did not work, do not worry, it will not have fried. (visa versa, plugging in a 110 psu to 220 volt supply would be a different story)
In order to get it to work you will need a 110-220 (230 or 240) step up transformer.

edit- or better still a us type psu

The slimline models from the US work fine in the UK, you just have to swap out the lead for a UK one. No step down is required.

I would assume this means it works the other way around also. It should say on the external adaptor what the range of voltages that accepatable are.

Some notes to take down though -

a) European PS2's only output pal and pal60, not NTSC.

This means that a Euro Ps2 is useless in the USA without a multisystem TV which are unheard of from the major chains. I am not sure if NTSC software will output NTSC on a chipped unit or not.

b) Always use a surge protector in the States, they don't fuse much over here in the States and surges will likely cause a problem.

.

NTSC software will boot in NTSC video format in a PAL ps2, as long as it is able to be booted via some sort of mod. There are also some retail boot discs (like Xploder, similar to Action Replay) that can boot PAL software in NTSC mode, but usually there are screen centering issues.
