Do the power wires need to be 18 gauge? I got deal on a happ Jamma Cable but the thing doesn't have 18 gauge wire for the power.

Well, larger power wires and more of them are always better. Maybe if we knew what your application was (specifics) and what your harness already has we could better assist you. Are the power wires 20 or 24 gauge instead of 18?

EDIT
While I'm asking questions about power,

all I need to power that puppy is a +5v line and a ground line from my PSU eh? The instructions say from PCB but wouldn't that be the same as getting it from the PSU?

Yup. Doesn't matter where you get the +5 volts from. Straight off the PSU or piggybacked off the Jamma edge.

I'm just going to be using it in a supergun, but I'm only going to be using the supergun with my MV-1C. I believe the wires are 20 gauge because it's larger then the wires in a CAT5 cable (24 gauge), but smaller then the 18 gauge wires that come off a PC power supply.

look on the wires for numbers/letters like AWG 22 - the number is the gauge of the wires.

I got the deluxe JAMMA harness from happ, and it had 22 gauge on everything but the power wires, which were 18 gauge. I tweaked it a little, moved some wires around on the connector (to get long wires where they'd actually be useful), added a few molex connectors (whose pins are a bitch and a half and three quarters to crimp) and I have a lovely neo-geo harness that I can pull individual parts out of the cabinet if needed (CP, monitor, coin door assy, atc.)

Sorry for the long rambling but I hope this helps!

Hmmm...Well, if all the power and ground wires are attached to the Jamma harness (they didn't leave any out), I would imagine they will be fine for a MV-1C since it doesn't have very high power requirements. If you ever intend to use this supergun with another PCB that has higher power requirements, than you would want large gauge wire.

But, if you are only going to use this with a MV-1C, it should be fine.

Even with a mv1c I think 24 gauge may be a bit light, I suppose if you are using cat5 and make each pair common its not too bad.

Ok, found out that the wire is 22 gauge, so the verdict is.... ? connect all the wires to the board and get power for other things from the PSU?

For a MV-1C that should be fine.

Get power for the video encoder from anywhere. As long as its +5v, it doesn't matter.

Thanks everyone, I now have a working supergun. I'll post pictures of it when I get it all 100%
