I found a 4 slot mainboard but the guy says sound buzzs and it messes with the video when it does it. Is this something that can be fixed and if so is is a cheap fix? What am I getting into.

Thanks,
Romeo

:tickled: I almost bid on that! It sounds like there's a ground problem to me... maybe he had a bad harness, or a couple of the traces are being crossed.

I'd say yes..depending on the price, and depending if you have some knowledge into fixing it..(and the time to do so)
It could be a quick fix or maybe not..

I myself would bid on something like that because I like projects and I'd love to fix it..(though I don't know much)
But only if it was cheap enough whereas if it was shot I'd not be throwing my money away.

.............................................................................
Right now I don't need to add anymore projects to my existing ventures.

You know I wonder sometimes about the board spacers on 4-slots causing problems.

Not saying that this problem is because of that, but when I got my 4-slot there were only 4-spacers, not enough to put any in the middle of the board under the slots. When I first took the boards apart to replace a video ram chip I noticed that the hexagonal spacers that had been at one time in the middle of the board had rubbed some, and possibly exposed the copper of some nearby traces (rubbed the green coating off). I still have not replaced the spacers, partly because I am afraid that they will bridge some traces between boards, causing something like an intermittent grounding problem, sound fuzzes, or random resetting.

Has anyone ever had a problem with this?

cheers,
-DT
