How would I be able to convert a video signal from rca to rgb... I want to be able to put a dvd in my cab... just because... I want like... an anti-supergun... :mr_t: wothout the player control functions... Also... how much would it cost (about)? Thanks.

You mean composite to RGB or component to RGB, they both use RCA connections.

With composite, in short you can't as everything is stuffed into one cable. With component, it's a bit different, but there is a bit of circuitry involved. It might be easier to buy a component - RGB converter box.

You can convert CVBS (composite or single rca video) to RGB + sync, This is what your TV does to display a picture.

Doing it yourself will be a pain. The simplest way I can think of is to get an ADC that can handle CVBS (probably be easier to find one that inputs Y/C which is s-video or maybe one that does both CVBS and Y/C) and then you will need a DAC which outputs standard resolution RGB +sync. Like I said this would be one hell of a hardcore DIY project.

You could also use a NTSC demodulator like the TDA3566 or TDA3562 (both only accept Y/C input so if you use composite you will have to split that up first, or just hook the composite up to both and get a really bad picture) then you will also need to either use the composite line for sync, or Y (in the case of Y/C) for sync, or build a sync generator circuit.

Either way it will be a major PITA. Bottom line...use your TV.

Cheers,

*EDIT* If you meant component (YPrPb, which is three rca connectors) video to RGB this is easier, since this can be done with some op-amps because Pr and Pb are the difference to RGB when Y is subtracted. There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. Alternately you can also do this with an ADC and a DAC but that is somewhat more complicated to do at home, but possibly higher quality?

composite rca... I might be able to use component though... or maybe s-video... but s-video connectors are such trash... well... are there any dvd players that anyone knows about with an rgb output?... or a dvd player that could be converted to rgb(possibly a portable one)?

True, the ps2 does have RGB output, also most newer dvd players have component outputs, even cheap ones.

You know... I was actually thinking of a ps2... I am aware of the rgb output, but is it standard resolution?... I was just fiddling around a little bit with my ps1 on my monitor, but I wasn't getting a good signal... True, I wasn't really doing much to make good contact, and also true that I was only testing three or the wires (ground, sync, and blue), but all I got was very faint letters doubled in the screen... maybe I just needed to adjust the holds, but I would have needed 7 hands... so... oh well... are playstations standard output (~15.75khz)?

Apparently, as near as I can find on google, the ps2 can output both RGB for SCART and component video. If you bought the SCART cable You could probably take it apart and use your ps2 in a cab.
