I am having a terrible time trying to find pinouts for the edge connector on this somewhat rare pre-jamma game made by tehkan (also kaneko). Mike's Arcade claims it to be the same as galaxian/pac-man but it obviously is not, because those are 44 pins and the card edge on this game is 32 pins. So far the closest pinout I have found is the pinout for several falcon games including the falcon version of Crazy Kong. It's found here http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/spies.cgi?action=url&type=pinout&page=Falcon.txt

I am pretty positive that pins 1-3 and pins A-C are grounds (the solder side pins are not labled), these pins seem to all be connected and go to the wide ground strip around the outer edge of the board. Pin 7/H appears to have been cut out with a saw? Pin 7 seem to never have existed, while some of pin H remains and appears to run to a diode on the parts side.

Pins 9/K being +5V may also be logical, pin K is connected through the board to pin 9 and there is a trace that runs to some caps over on the left side of the board.

Don't have time to properly trace everything down now, got to get up for work in four hours (5am bleh!)

Here's a pic of my board, if anyone has any clues, let me know!!

Thanks
-Josh

I don't think it's a bootleg, because it looks identical to the few other pics of the board I have been able to find (including the one you posted in response to one of my questions in your "Kid in a Candy Store: Part 3" thread, except for that extra board that is connected where mine only has some resistors, also my board has had pin 7 cut out and the one in the pic still has pin 7). The boards are also numbered the way KLOV says they should be , K-00A and K-00B.

Everything I've found so far says that it is the same pinout class as galaxian, frogger, etc. But it is 36 pins not 44 or 32 (I was extremely tired last night when I thought 18*2=32 LOL! :loco: ) I suppose I'll just have to try and figure it out myself. pins 1-3 parts side and solder side have to be grounds.

The crazykong.com pic above is easier to see the pins than the pic from when I bought it on ebay. I do think that this pinout http://www.crazykong.com/tech/CrazyKong.bd.pdf could very well be correct, because pin 5 parts side and solder side are connected to each other and go to the lower left side, +12V could be correct here, also pin 9 parts side and solder side are connected and go the same way as pin 5. It could be +5V. There are holes like for mounting caps, one on ground, one on the trace that comes from pin 5. Also, one on ground, one on the trace from pin 9 (you can see these on the very bottom left corner of both pics, no cap there though in either pic). The trace I am calling ground is the big fat one connected to pin 1-3 (both sides) and running all the way around the outer rim of both boards.

According to the crazykong pinout above pin 6 and 7 are player 1&2 up on the solder side n/c on parts side. My board has N/C on parts side. I am still stumped as to why pin 7 has been removed. If this is the correct pinout I'm assuming the jump buttons will be the fire buttons...

Maybe 7 is cut out bc it's not needed. The KLOV pic of the control panel looks like the game is 2 player turn based, so player 2 up would not be needed.

Well, I think this is probably as close a pinout as I will find so unless someone has a better suggestion I'll probably start here and see what I can work out. I just don't like seeing boards smoke.... I'll start with +5 and ground and see where I get to from there. The pinout can't be identical bc pin 13 parts side is n/c on my board and coin switch on the crazy kong pinout. I'm sure I can figure this out, when I do I wanna post the pinout all over the place, dunno why it's not available already.

Sorry for the long winded, scatter-brained post, it helps if I type everything out as I think things like this through :glee:
I'll work on this some tomorrow night and let everyone know of any successes

Cheers
