Very sorry if this has been asked before.

I'm about to get my first CPS-2 boards that I intend to actually play and I have the choice of a JPN or USA A board. If I take the JPN one does that mean that my TEST menu will be displayed in Japanese text? Basically do the A boards or the B boards hold the region information?

Hope you can understand what I'm on about too.

That isn't what I hear. I've seen JPN SSF2X boards advertised that feature an English menu. Apparently this is a special feature as usually the menu is in Japanese.
I'm hoping Dani or Raz comes in as I'm sure they will be able to help me.

As far as I know, the region/language of the CPS2 games is determined by the game B board and not the A motherboard, totally opposite to MVS. So a Japanese B board game will work in Japanese even in an English motherboard. However I am not sure how the test menu works. If I remember well, when I had a Japanese green A+B game (D&D1), the test menu was in English, but it was some years ago and I'm not sure.

Wait for Raz or other experts to come.

Amano Jacu is correct about the language being determined by the game and not the motherboard. Basically the only difference between a USA or Japanese 'A' board is the button color on the side of the unit (Blue for USA and Green for Japan). However make sure you get one of those 2 regions because an Asia or Hispanic 'A' board has inverted connectors and won't accept green or blue 'B' boards. Like wise a green of blue 'a' board wont accept grey or orange 'b' boards unless the 'b' boards have been modded.

The language of testmode depends on the game and region. Many of the earlier games have an English test mode even if the Game is the Japanese version. Its mainly games from 96/97 onwards that use a Japanese text in testmode.

I believe my Japanese copy of Mars Matrix has a Japanese test menu. I haven't booted it up in awhile though, so I'm not completely certain.

I know my japanese Super Puzzle Fighter 2X has japanese menus.

(planning on getting some Phoenix love from razoola come the payday and making it English, though)

as far as I can tell, the blue and green A boards are exactly the same, except for (a) the sticker on the top of the A board, and (b) the color of the volume and test buttons.
Oh, and there's some manufacturer information on the bottom of the board that's in Japanese on the green, and english on the blue.
