I'm going to modify a few consoles that I've got laying around to work on my cab, and I need to know how to wire up the video. To be specific, I'm going to first modify my playstation 1 (not the small ps1, but the older version), then my NES... or maybe I'll get a cheap fc-nes to modify, and leave my nes alone for sentimental reasons... :conf:

Well, your station outputs RGB..

As for the Nes, why do you want it out output RGB?

It's nearly impossible to have it nativly output RGB.

... so it seems... (looking at the connector for the ps1... convinient... 5 pins used... hrm... maybe... I'll have to do a trial... Why would the nintendo be nearly impossible to convert to rgb?... I want to be able to put it in my cab... to sorta... localize all my console stuff... inside my arcade cab... yup.

Ok OK,

Well you can get a Composite-> RGB for the nes.

Nes does not output RGB anywheres.

Some people hack up PC10 boards to chip thier nes.... But I don't know if that's just a converter or if it gets the nes to natively output RGB....

do you know the pinout for the playstation?... I see 12 solder points on the video connector on the pcb, and I think that I use 1,2,3,4, and 6... if I'm seeing correctly from the connector... I'll hold off on the nes until I have a spare... I have two ps1s as it is, so I can deal pretty easilly with screwing up one of them... as long as it's not my chipped one ;) (import games rock)

oops... I guess I was reading the pinout backwards... and wrong... I guess it's 12,11,9,8,and 6... I found a pinout by googling it...

Original NES hardware did not use RGB at all. Its video chip used YUV colorspace. The reason people take the video chip off of PC10 boards is because the PC10 PPU is compatible with the NES, and it operates in RGB colorspace.

Hmmm...interesting. I knew the NES could not output RGB, but I didn't know you could somehow change the video chip and install an RGB-out one. Could any of you do that mod, perhaps? ME WANTS RGB NES!

:D
