Just wondering what affects your ranking in 3rd Strike on xbl. Do losses make your ranking go down? Do you move up according to ranking of the players that you beat? Does your rating in each match affect your ranking?

Please wow me with your 3rd Strike knowledge.

Bump

And I've got another question that's maybe a little easier. WTF is up with Gill being selectable online?? That's ridiculous. A fucking monkey could win with that bastard.

Thats terrible man. His SA's are almost impossible to parry. Its this same way in 2002 online, except people almost never use rugal.

Your ranking goes up to B no matter how crap you are, just how much you play it. From A -S -SS its all skill.

How is "skill" determined by the rankings system?

win percentage
roughly 50%, 60%, and 70% for A, S, and SS respectively.
close enough if not exact.

from an old srk post i dug up:

basically the system works like this... if johnny plays 1 game his rank is like what. an R? I dont remember what letter they start you off with. Johnny plays 100 games... his grade moves up to an Q. He plays 200 games his grade moves up to P... each 100 games you play your grade moves up a notch... once your total games played has reached 1000 it will be determined by your win ratio in what grade you get.

Under 55% win ratio = B
Under 60% but over 55% win ratio = A
Under 70% but over 60% win ratio = S
Over 70% win ratio = SS

To calculate your win ratio is pretty simple. For instance if I have played a total of 2000 games and I was at 62% win ratio then I would have my total as 1240/2000.

Cool - thanx man. It seems like a silly way to do ratings though - maybe they'll improve it in the future. It just doesn't seem right that you could just find lower ranked players all day and get to an SS ranking.

I guess that's why there are a lot of guys quitting right before you beat them.

rank is pointless on live for anything but a cursory indication of matches played, and sometimes, skill.

droppers give losses to both players. almost every one of those should technically be a W for the non-dropper.

some matches are so bad I give up the match, but don't drop. who knows if i could have won without lag?

rank-whores, people who only play lower ranks to increase their own, etc.

so yeah, it's a nice way to get a quick indication of how good someone is, but not the be-all end-all of who's the best there is.

bsod was a problem back when the game first came out in Japan and was region free. They fixed it though, so all is good. I never really gave a shit about my ranking anyway. I've played people with great rankings that sucked, I've played people ranked far lower than me who kicked my ass hard.

Haven't even logged in for over a month. I'm probably rusty as hell.

Generally you can pick the SS rank whores quite easily. An example may be they have a record like 2000/2500 and yet they are still only ranked 500 or something along those lines. When you win against a lower ranked or graded opponent you generally only get 3-9 points. However against a high ranked player you can get 37-45 points for the win. The majorty of people I have faced with a grade of A and above tend to have a decent amount of knowledge and skills in the game so obviously if you are beating higher ranked players your ranking is going to be higher and more well earned I guess.

Although of course there are a few exemptions like Shiren, MarvinXII (?) to name a few who are lag players not real players. They spend the whole match doing things that could only have a chance of working online - people like that really annoy me. :blow_top:

Oh, ok - so it's really about ranking rather than grade, huh? Well, then it's not such a bad system after all, I guess. They seriously need to make Gill unplayable though.

Add me to your buddy list on there. I suck, so I'll help your ranking improve.

Not if I suck worse .... :spock:

Honestly, I think I could be decent, but I'm sort of stuck playing on my fekking PS 2 pads until my RAP sticks get here. They're the special edition/addition models, and I've been waiting on them for over a month now. NCSX was supposed to get them on the 31st of March.

Anyway, I'll add ya when I get back to the hizzle later on.
