I bought a power kit from bob roberts... included in the kit was an isolation transformer for my monitor... my monitor is self powered, so my question is this... do I still need the iso transformer, and if so, how would I go about hooking it up?

If your monitor pcb utalises a switch mode power supply where the primary has no reference to ground (which is standard nowadays) then an isolating transformer is not necessary. Older gen cabs do need the iso transformer for safety reasons as the chassis of older monitors can be at half mains.

My cabs have step down transformers which act as isolating transformers as its 240 volts here not 115 as in the states.

ps: an isolating transformer also provides a certain amount of mains supply regulation, the output is "smoother" than the input ;)

hrm... ok then... I'll take it out... since all it's doing now is generating excess heat... alright... thanks.

I personally would leave the transofrmer inside. safety. I never seen it do smoothing action. But if somethign happs to the monitor, or you go for a different monitor as in a repair, what you get is a sudden and expensive and dangerous set of fireworks.

ttooddddyy.....tony ??

USA has 110v, does any one know if this is centre tapped to earth?
ie between earth and live 55 volts, and earth and neutral 55v or is it 0v between earth and neutral and 110 volts between earth and live...

The reason I ask this is I am going to be buying a 110v JPN cab and powering it via a 240-110 stepdown transformer...These transformers in the UK are always centre tapped, rather than neutral - earth...

Will this effect the running of the JPN cab....
