I have a ST-V with a few games. This has happened every once in a while with the Japanese puzzel games but today I got Cotton II and it happens every few minutes. I'll be playing the game and, bam, it freezes the video and the sound goes into a loop.

Could this be a power supply problem? I've cleaned the carts, cleaned the JAMMA connector etc. The power supply is old; it's from a 1988 Double Dragon cabinet. How difficult is this to replace? There is also, what looks like, a transformer (block with lots of wound copper wire about the size of a fist). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

At the arcade I work at we have an original Die Hard Arcade STV cabinet, and it freezes from time to time. We have no idea what causes it. One time the 3d graphics disappeared and it only showed status text/life bars and stuff.

Well I increased the +5V on my power supply 1/8th of a turn and problem solved. To my supprise my monitor became more vibrant and the sharpness went up.

Time to invest in a multimeter I would say. The +5 line will cause all sorts of problems like that, glad to hear it was a simple fix.
