Hi just wondered if someone could tell me what the following means.

"HARDWARE SELFTEST FAILED"

"Z80 COMMUNICATION"

I have a 6-slot with uni BIOS installed.

Was working fine been playing for about an hour and then went and soft re-booted the system. When the system booted back up the message above appered.

Can anyone tell me what this means, and if its a serious ploblem etc?

This has never happened before, and also when switching off the machine and restarting it the machine runs as normal.

You might want to try wiping the backup ram - my 4 slot was giving me -funky- errors when it had no battery and was being turned on and off to install it ("This game can only be played on SNK hardware"...??)

Maybe your cart connections are dirty. Also its known the some games can cause sound to stop working when in a certain order in the unit. If you soft reset the system so 2 games that have this problem run after each other I would say its very possible to get this error right after soft resetting.

Dave?

The only Hard dip that I have on is number 7 for freeplay.

Yes Dave. I have never encountered said problem before and I wanted to know if it had anything to do with the communications dips.

Thanks very much Raz I actually think that may be the case of why the error came up as the reason that I did reset the system was because after playing turfmasters I went to play KOF 03 and there was no sound, so what I usually do if that happends, which is quite oftern is just reset the system untill I get sound.

Sorry dont get the Dave thing, are you joking?

Im not sure why its doing it, never has happened before but I think it may be something to do with the sound. All the Dips like I say are off apart from number 7. I cant really test it as it has only happened a few times.

Don't worry Dave. I find Shock Troopers and Metal Slug 3 together to be bad for the no sound thing, KOF 01 and 02 aren't so great either. The rule I go on now is to put the games in date order starting with the oldest in slot-1. It seems to help, but I still occasionaly get the no sound thing. I find that you should not mix Giga Power games with non GP ones, which is why I use the date order thing.
Anyway maybe this will help you.

Hey thanks very much for your help mate, ill try that one. Do you also own a 6-slot?

The main games I tend to have that is funny with sound is metal slug and KOF games. I do swap them over if this occors a few times as well as just turning the machine off or soft re-booting the system.
