Info that Razoola had provided that I keep to post in such occasions..

Hard DIP's 2 and 3 have different meanings depending on the BIOS.

Japan bios (rev5)

5 Linkage parameter
6 Linkage parameter
7 Free play
8 Stop Mode

USA bios (rev5)

3 not used
4 Linkage parameter
5 Linkage parameter
6 Linkage parameter

8 Stop Mode

EURO bios (rev5)

3 not used

Japan bios (rev6)

1 Self Test
2 coin mode (VS Mode)
3 Mahjong keyboard control
4 Linkage parameter
5 Linkage parameter
6 Linkage parameter
7 Free play
8 Stop Mode

UNIVERSE BIOS v1.2 and later

1 Self Test
2 coin mode/coin switch (depending on region used)
3 not used
4 Linkage parameter
5 Linkage parameter
6 Linkage parameter
7 Free play
8 Stop Mode

In case you don't know;

'COIN SWITCH' allows the USA BIOS to switch between 2 or 4 coin inputs.

'COIN MODE' allows VS MODE which will change the coin layout to one like the USA bios for some games only (mainly fighters). This allows a coin input for 1UP and another for 2UP, in effect a single player to start on player 2 side. This is not possible in the normal JAPAN or EURO BIOS.

'STOP MODE' pause the system during gameplay.
