My AES stick is pretty much on it's last legs as far as the shell is concerned with major cracks over the top - my bro went spazzo when he got beat at Samurai 2 - so was wondering is there say, a cast you can get that has the same layout so that all I would have to do is gut it and install the innards to the new stick. Also, if there are any, are they customisable?

I don't know of any immediate joysticks you could swop the parts over with easily....BUT how about maplins??... they have a range of robust plastic cases & curved type slopeing cases that could just do the trick if you were dexterous like that...in fitting the old joystick & buttons into... just something different to try eh?

I thought of that, but there's the internal structure to think about. How would I secure the stick & buttons to the top of the shell?

Jeez...i cannot remember the configeration inside a neo stick ATMIT!!.... so you will i guess?... is there nothing connected to the lid?... if not then its easier!!...if that a plain jane with you?...the joystick would be secured to the base of the new shell... then the buttons installed forthwith... with the lid its just a case of making some neat holes...

If I remember correctly, the Neo buttons are connected to the top of the lid :( However, I was thinking, there is a Joystick out called the XE-3, which is for the Super Famicom/PC Engine/Mega Drive, which looks the same as the Neo controller. Maybe I could gut that and stick the insides in there.

That would also lead me to another interesting question.

The XE-3 also has extra holes for the 2 extra SFC buttons AND rapid fire. Could these features be added to a bog standard Neo controller?

You don't need the innards of any Neo stick to build your own one, you just need a DB15 cable (with the female end long enough for the deep AES socket), arcade joystick and buttons, and a case to fit everything in. Then follow this pin-out when wiring it (+5V is not needed):

Another possibility is to mod an already build suitable arcade stick, in that case you only need the DB15 cable.

Anyone know a source for a DB15 cable with the female end long enough for the deep AES socket? If not a cable, how about just the long female DB15 connector?

DC Sticks conversion

I converted some DC Arcade sticks using 15 way d-connectors, its dead easy and will look really professional! But try to buy the 15 way cables with NON moulded ends (screw-on ones are better), so it is nice and easy for you to make a note of which pin each colour wire goes to. The moulded ones are a real pain in the arse to cut open! and a bast to work out what wire goes where!!! Be warned!

If you use the DC sticks, you also dont need to do any soldering, there are handy connectors inside which you can just slot the wires into, making the mod 100% reversible! with no indication the stick had ever been converted!!!!

oh yeah 15 way cables are used in serial joypads/joysticks for the PC, but what you need is a PC joystick extension cable!!! Or better still a Neo extension cable.

Doing some continuity tests with a 10$ multimeter, you can figure out "what wire goes where" in some seconds.
