Liquor- what brand should I buy?

I was at the liquor store tonight and decided that I finally needed to branch out from just the usual 12-pack and wine in the fridge. So I wandered over to the liquor wall, and I was blown away by the massive selection.

I ended up with my usual 12-pack and a vow to know what to buy next time.

I only want stuff I can drink straight or mixed with coke or tonic water. Not looking to make lots of mixed drinks.

So far I'm leaning toward Crown Royal, Canadian Mist, some kind of vodka, Jack Daniels, or some kind of good gin or mid-range scotch.

Recommendations?

get a small bottle of malibu, a small stoli raspberry, a small bombay saphire, and a small bacardi 151.

ok, now get a bottle of tonic and a bottle of Sprite.

have a raspberry stoli sprite

next day, have a have some malibu on the rocks, some malibu with sprite,

ok, and finally drink some gin and tonics.

Some people like gin and tonics. I don't.

As it stands, I find myself drinking a lot of rum. I have malibu and 151 and a hole in my chest.

The first time I ever drank someone handed me a 5th of Kentucky Deluxe.

If you want to drink something good, get some Jim, Jack or Wild Turkey,
mix with coke or take shots and chase them with something like coke.

The shit wasabi drinks is for women.

I like to buy 1.75 liters of Bartons gin for around 9.99 when i'm poor as fuck.

But definitely get some gin, vodka, and good whiskey - i dont like jack or jim much. Seagrams 7 is good. And of course crown royal is tops.

Also, drinks mixed with sprite have always made me vomit in the past.

Do not bother with gin.

Nice. I started on Southern Comfort and cheap Vodka. I dont drink SoCo or cheap vodka anymore to many vomit filled nights.

I say invest in different kinds in the forms of shots. That way if you dislike a liquor, you didn't waste your money on the whole bottle.

With coke, I say try Jack Daniels (or if you're feeling indulgent, JD single barrel or Gentleman Jack), and rum (I recommend Myer's Dark or Montecristo).

Scotch-wise, see if you can get Johnny Walker Green Label. It's a step up from Black label but not as pricey as Blue or Gold Label. If you're interested in something more affordable, Dewars White Label is a pretty safe choice.

Plain vodka is always good to have around since it mixes well with many kinds of sodas. Though if you want to throw in a little flavor, expeiment with flavored vodka and see what works for you.

And this may sound really lame, but I also recommend Irish Cream liqueurs. They go down smooth and are tasty at the same time.

One final thing - Take Wasabi's advice on pacing yourself. No need to burn yourself out so soon.

If you like rum try Captain Morgan and Appleton V/X (not the Special, major difference). This way you have one spiced and a normal gold rum. Typical Bacardi in most restaurants is swill.

Vodka: its Grey Goose, Belvadere or nothing. My girlfriend swears that Stoli Vanil is great mixed with coke or red bull, but I have yet to try it.

For whiskey Crown Royal is good, so is Jack Daniel's.

If you like coffee drinks to warm you on a cold night grab a bottle of Bailey's and/or Kahlua.

Gin, tequila, brandy and scotch are aquired tastes for the most part so hold off on those for now.

One thing to do is buy several of those 200 ML bottles so that you don't end up spending $15-25 a shot on various things you may not like. The smaller bottles are only like $8-10 when they are available. I don't think the Appleton comes in the smaller bottle though and I know its rare to find any bar/restaurant in this area that carries it save fine dining establishments.
