So are you saying there is another version on the way?

No, there is no other edition on the way... I think we can finally all agree to that. Last update I heard was in 2003. It's probably never going to happen.

I've been fairly unhappy with all of my Warner Brothers "Collector's Editions" I'm referencing a rathe shoddy Clockwork Orange "collectors Edition" and one other.

and aside from a cell it should be an identical disc as the others, albeit in an oversized case.

I'd say save your money, although i'd be interested to hear Kid Aphex's, and Buro Destruct's respective takes.

I have that box. It's meh. It's not bad, but not great. The bonus goods are decent enough, but not worth $75. I think I got mine for around $50, but even that's pushing it, seriously. That DVD is the SAME DVD you get outside the box. Crappy Warner Brothers crapboard package.

The bonuses are the cel, a poster, the big ass box and what amount to little photos from with scenes from the film. Really not worth the money if you ask me.

As far as the complete collector's edition, I have to agree in that it's probably never coming. Isn't the problem that the people who now own the rights hated the film? Something about they fronted money for the movie and said that if it went over schedule the rightst became theirs? The film went over schedule, and the theatrical US release became theirs, but the other versions did not (like the UK version)?

I was at a conference a few years ago where the producer was on a panel.

I do recall something to the effect that the rights owners aren't happy, but he also mentioned a sequal. That they were looking for screenplays (I posted this forever ago, so if you really give a shit, maybe look for it in April 2002 or 2003 to see how well my memory jives now vs. then).

Thats about right. It sucks too cause its a great flick and these dickwads wont release it cause they think otherwise. These are the same people that tacked on that cheesy ass ending and the crap voice over when it was released in theaters.

As for that boxset....i wouldnt bother. Its still encoded in dolby 2.0.

I don't care about the theatrical release. The theatrical release sucked donkeys compared to the director's cut. So they can leave that out forever as far as I'm concerned. I want a better transfer and commentary. Maybe some documentaries. Some-fucking-thing.

I think i'll stick with my Blade Runner Director's Cut Laserdisc for now. :make_fac:

While we're on the subject of special editions, does anyone think there will ever be another release of Star Wars or THX 1138 without all the shitty added later scenes and special effects? I want the originals, digitally remastered, but preserved as shown to audiences. I suppose I'll have to fork out large sums of cash for these on laserdisc as well, since you can't get the original cuts on DVD.

It's maddening as hell, especially when I go DVD shopping and see fat-ass 3-disc versions of much lesser movies. We're talking about probably the greatest sci-fi movie of all time, and one of the finest films ever committed to celluloid. All held up because of one asshole producer who apparently wants a bigger cut of the DVD pie.

Jerry Perenchio: Skin job who needs to be retired.

Are you saying the title is better (because that is argueable)? If you are saying the movie is better then the book though you need to tone down on the drugs (or maybe tone up)... and the reason it is "some what similar" is that Blade Runner is based on it. (sorry if that is a bit mean :) )

what? I'm not saying any of the things you mentioned. If you liked the movie you should read the book and i prefer the title blade runner. That's all i'm saying. :D

I felt the book and the movie were only vaguely similar. And to be honest, I prefer the movie. This is probably one of the only cases I'd say that for.

For the most up-to-date discussion/news, stick to the forums at www.bladezone.com

Periodically check there for any news on the DVD --- chances are, it'll show up there first.
