So then, I'm assuming all of you here that have cars can at least change your own oil and filter on a regular basis. Whether you do the job yourself or pay some monkey at Jiffy Lube to do it for you, which brand of oil filter do YOU prefer?

1. Fram
2. Wix
3. K&N
4. Mobil 1
5. Bosch
6. OEM
7. STP
8. Valucraft
9. SuperTech (Wal-mart brand)
10. Purolator
11. Other

Discuss! :)

I've seen these things sliced in half, and Wix definitely makes the best filters - about double the filter media of any other. Next up I'd probably put Fram and Bosch in a tie for second place. I don't know about all those other poop brands.

P.S. Oil filter threads > gh3y anime threads :kekeke:

Well, Mobil 1 and K&N are considered quality filters by many of the folks who frequent the Mitsubishi forums. Of course, for the quality you end up paying around $10-$13 for the filter.

Personally, I go with Bosch for my car. Fram filters are OK as long as you don't spring for the cheap $2.00 versions.

K & N are pretty good filters, but aren't they like reusable or something? Maybe they've branched out into the disposable filter world since I've stopped hustling auto parts, but I know they used to be washable or something.

I'm sure Mobil 1 and Bosch make pretty good filters, but Wix and Fram are probably at the top. I think all they do is make filters.

I don't believe the K&N oil filters are reusable. Definitely their air filters, but not the oil.

I stick with AC Delco or Motorcraft.

Usually I use OEM filters on customer's cars also.

Aftermarket wise, Wix is the best imo.

My family has always been K&N (My dad is a big nutter for their products... has a Malibu Maxx now with a full air-intake system of theirs.), but I've used Wix as well. Both really good filters.

Yes, my 1992 Honda Civic Si engine keeps getting smaller...

Seriously though, the new Civic Si will have 200 hp...

Same here, but why the hell have Civic oil filters have gotten smaller?

This is usually attributed to tighter manufacturing tolerances. The smaller the tolerance, the less blow-by occurs and the need for filtering is diminished. Also fuel injection , metallurgy, and crankcase ventilation improvements all add to less need for filtering.

I just think it's really silly to be changing it though, now it's going to be harder for me to change out filters everytime I change my oil just because they decided to make them smaller.

They are air filters and yes they are reusable, I use them in my cars and they are great. You have to buy a cleaning kit for them though.
