The Lancia Stratos is one of those rare cars that perfectly combines form with function. It was a stylistic masterpiece that racked up many rally victories. Today it is a relatively rare vehicle that has many fans around the world. One of the biggest of these enthusiasts is Chris Hrabalek, who at the age of 23 owned nine examples. As a student of the Royal College of Art's Vehicle Design, he set out to design and construct a Stratos of the 21st century. Backed by a number of investors he started a design studio called Fenomenon.

At the 2005 Geneva Motorshow the Fenomenon stand attracted a huge crowd, all interested in the 'new' Stratos. Its design was penned by a third party unknown at this time. Although many new design cues were used, the overall compact shape definitely remind of the Stratos of old. Like its predecessor, the Fenomenon Stratos is to be equipped with a Ferrari engine, derived from the 360 Challenge Stradale. Carbon fibre and aluminum were used throughout the vehicle to keep the weight down to a stunning 950 kg.

The car on display in Geneva was not yet fully functional, but a fully running version is expected as early as the Frankfurt Motorshow in September. Sales are focussed on developing countries where the poor road conditions would perfectly suit the Fenomenon Stratos.

Weight: 950 kilo / 2094.4 lbs
Engine: Ferrari F131 90º V 8
Engine Location: Mid , longitudinally mounted
Displacement: 3.586 liter / 218.8 cu in
Valvetrain: 5 valves / cylinder, DOHC
Fuel feed: Fuel injection
Aspiration: Naturally Aspirated
Gearbox: paddle-operated 6 speed Sequential
Drive: Rear wheel drive
Power: 420 bhp / 313 KW @ 8500 rpm
Torque: 373 Nm / 275 ft lbs @ 4750 rpm
BHP/Liter: 117 bhp / liter
Power to weight ratio: 0.44 bhp / kg
Top Speed: 314 km/h / 195 mph
0-60 mph Acceleration: 3.8 s

I definitely love the idea behind this car. The new Stratos looks pretty kick ass and it seems that it is going to have excellent performance as well.

I was just gonna say it looks like the guys at Bungie designed that car.

IMO it looks godly, i'd hate to see the gas milage on that thing tho, it has a ferrari engine, it's probably like 9mpg city

Whatever man.

Its just a ugly car man, haha you may feel that way about something I like. Cars that sport those wild looks are almost always hit or miss, and I am real strict on those designs. Only a few cars of a higher price are ones I really like.

F355 is still my favorite design for a more expensive car, its easily the most attract ferrari and stands above all designs as far as im concerned. Not many people would agree with me though.

I just hope you're not the type to praise BMW's looks as of late (especially that ugly Z4). ;)

Why would you mention Ford for ugly styling? Have you even seen the new Thunderbird and Mustang? Very good design overall for both of those cars.

I don't know...I kind of like this Lancia's edgey design. Sure it looks like some sort of CGI rendering, but it is unique that's for sure.

The new one is probably a little too composite looking for my taste, but to whoever is slamming it for being only a V8, wtf.

Still a very nice car, and a very cool background to the design, just not my style.

Paddle operated shifting makes me sad though :( even though I know its more effective.

holy A1 sauce that's ugly.

Agreed.

I wonder how long it will take before designers realize nobody wants cars that looks like a child's rendition of a spaceship.

Also, the old version didn't look much better. At least not the yellow one posted - the rally version looked better.

Edit: The old one was better overall. Didn't see that the body styles were the same.

Who picked out the baby poop green color? Or is that suppose to be yellow? Ugly color either way. Interesting design for a car though just paint it a better color.
