Well I drive an SVT focus that I love or um used to love. Its got a double plated clutch that left me on the side of the road a while back. I was without the car for a month while the part was ordered. Well the clutch is chattering again. I'm going to set up an appointment but am just not happy with it anymore. I can spent up to about 25K give or take. On the other hand I put a lot of miles on my cars 25k per year so I'm also thinking about a low end car that would be fun to drive yet leave me some extra monies. Any suggestions in the price range I have stated. I'm leaning toward a WRX or even a non turbo wagon for the 4WD (chicago winters). So speak ye faggots.

yeah i've heard a lot of subaru love
before I bought the focus I almost bought a WRX but did not like how cheap it felt. They have been redesigned since then so I will check them out again. The SVT has a six speed, power everything, heated leather it just shit all over the scooby. I hope they made it feel better.

I bought a 2003 Toyota Corolla because I was making 50 mile roundtrips to work. That thing is fucking sweet on gas. All I have to do is fill up completely once a paycheck and I'm good to go, and I used it a lot more than just going to work. Now I live about 3 miles from work, and I fill up every month and a half. Good shit.

I get close to 40 miles to the gallon with mine. Think I paid something like 13k - 15k for it. I was torn between a pickup and the corolla, but the gas mileage throw me over the edge. I feel more manly in a slick truck, but having a fatter wallet gives me a bigger chub.

You don't need AWD for snow, just buy yourself some snow tires and your good to go, besides, AWD uses up extra gas since your driving two extra wheels.

As for a good car, you might want to check out the Mazda 3, not as fast as a WRX but its fun to drive, plus it won't guzzle gas as fast as a turbo. Not sure if you would like to buy a Civic Si though, its a hatchback and also sporty, especially when you take it into VTEC territory. The Scion Tc is also another good car, Toyota reliabilty costing under $20k and probably the best car in its segment.

There are others I can recommend but you need a cheap, affordable car that is also sporty and gets good mileage, so thats the list I came up with. Hope thats what your looking for.

Get a Toyota Prius or Honda Insight. They run ~$21000. You get up to 60 MPG in either. I'm considering trading both my cars in for one (each car gets ~18mpg when I'm lucky), as getting 4X+ the MPG at $2 a gallon seems rather appealing. 1 gallon of gas back and forth to work on a single day, rather than 2-2.5? Yeah, hook me up.

The supposed life span is the same as any Toyota/Honda, so they should last quite a while.

Does it have to be fast?

A non turbo WRX would do great on Gas, shame about the SVT not working out for you though, it seems like it's the best fit for what you need. You sure they can't fix it up for you and have ita ll be good again?

The problem with the WRX and others like it is the gas. The mileage ain't great and it sucks up Preimum for that turbo. If you want AWD then the non WRX Imprezza isn't all that bad I guess. May want to look into the low-end Forester, my mom has one of those and while it isn't going to be as fun to drive as your SVT it's got enough HP (160 I think?) to give you passing power for the highway. Mileage ain't bad either.

You can get a 4 banger accord for under 20k if you needed it, plus there's that Honda reliability factor. Heck you could look up a used 2k2 or so Accord if you want to go cheap. Plus Civic's are always an option, though I don't know how much the Si's run for nowaday's.

You say its good on gas, but any idea on numbers? My fiancee' is getting a relatively dismal 26-28 MPG or so on hers (same exact model/year). She does drive it hard though, and I realize that doesn't help, but I expect this model to get at least 30 MPG.

As a reference, my 2k3 civic gets 32 in the winter, 36-38 in the summer.

Victoly will be mine when I WILL buy a Hybrid car... someday. I wanted to years ago, but the cautious conservative I am... I elected to wait a couple more generations. I test drove the 2003 civic hybrid; fun car but I much prefer how Toyota designed their hybrid drive system.

I would get the cheapest car possible if the car is mostly for commuting to/from work. Cars are bullshit lies, I tell you, they depreciate faster than your dotcom stocks. I would stick with Honda/Toyota brands because you know they are tanks and will last you for awhile WITHOUT EXPENSIVE parts and such. But even a starter Civic/Accord isn't cheap.

What about Toyota's Scion brand? Seems like some of them look quite nice, but I have no idea if that's something you would like. They are targeted for young working professionals who does not have alot of money, but still look stylish (but probably abit weak under the hood).

Either that or get a bike. 50 miles a day biking and you will be joining the Tour de France soon enough! :D

Definatley get a Subaru.

Best cars IMO.

I have a 98 Impreza and it runs great with over 100,000 miles on it.

I would say if you are concerned about Gas to get either and Outback Sport or the Forrester.

I myself am drooling over the new Legacy GT.

the funky little xb truck thing interests me
looked at their site and it gets 30/35 mpg
its under 15k too so i'll have a cheap car note
108 horsepower make me cringe a bit but meh I can always buy an older second car that is fast
