I bought the 1.25 GHz 40 gig hard drive version.

The machine is virtually silent.

The stock 256 megs of Ram suxorz. First thing tomorrow I am going to pull the 256 meg chip and drop in a 512. Also picked up an Apple keyboard to go with it.

Some pics for those interested:

dang macs get away with murder. how much do those run like $500? for a 1.25 ghz 256mb machine with a no doubt poor video card?

granted the size is unbelievable but do you really need something that tiny? :kekeke:

Great system - very nice setup.

Got ahold of one of these last Thursday, and also a free iPod Shuffle. Beautiful machines.

Poor videocard? Why would you need a better one? Games? Haha.

Very nice. :D I agree 256mb is not enough RAM to run OS X comfortably... w/ 512 it should fell alot better.

:buttrock:

I would be interested in one of those fine machines, but I am still on a G4 400 PowerMac w/ 448 MB RAM so a mini really isn't worth the money for the upgrade to me, at least not for my needs, don't do much gaming on my Mac.

CAD programs? 3D Studio Max? There's plenty of uses for high end video cards other than games. You're just showing your ignorance.

Let me know when Discreet releases 3D Studio on Mac.

And a system called "The most affordable Mac ever" is clearly not something targeted at heavy workstation users.

Oh, and let's also add a small dose of irrational hatred - You're just showing your lack of knowledge.

what can you do with it? surf the net, email, write documents etc?

you can do that with a $50 junker.

then again you wouldnt be able to stick it in your pocket and head on over to starbucks or anything. is that where most of the $500 goes? the small size? be honest plz.

seriously though, I only use my comp to download music, movies, surf, and word processor

I figure if this is all I do, why not do it with a better operating system?

it's all about WinXp vs. OSX

please don't say linux

I considered getting a Mac Mini to use as an HTPC, but since I'm cheap, I went the PC route. I miss my old G4 tower.

Course you can do all that. Plus since its tiny, quite and doesn't consume much power, it makes a good foundation for a possible media PC. It outputs VGA and DVI, S-video and composite. Just add on a little USB remote control receiver and you are good to do.

Plus, yes, Macs are always more expensive due to the OS and teh mac "experience".

do you mean like a movie/music box?

I can see the music part, but you'd need a big harddrive for holding the movies

I know there's programs like mac the ripper where you can throw in a DVD and have it at your disposal at anytime

I think it's time to invest in a bigger external HD

you're on to something here slick

Damn, that thing is tiny. Its smaller then the laptop I'm on right now.

I will say, though, the next portable I get will probably be a Mac. I'll keep a Tower AMD to do all the heavy lifting.

So what did you think man? it looks sexy indeed, I decided to grab a Cube since I can upgrade the processor etc.

Is this your first mac?

And what did you get in the box?

I just saw where people were using a Mac Mini as car PC's. The damn thing fits into a double DIN perfect and can be ran off of most laptop power supplies.

This Mac Mini thing may be more versatile than Jobs planned...damn shame im building an Athlon 64 system with bigger specs for the same price but for a ready made system and it's size it's definitley a good buy, just get 512MB for ram.

Nice pics. I still think Heineken tastes like piss though.

But seriously, nice setup. I'd love to get a mini but i'm poor. Maybe if i scrape some change up. I'd definitely be using mine for music if i had one, i'm not to concerned with video. Plus i just really want a mac anyway.

I was going to get me a Mac Mini to use mainly as a movie/music box.
But eventually decided to go with a modded bawks..

And why would anyone want a better graphics adapter in the Mini?
I don't get it..

Most people on other forums have been waiting for this Budget priced Mac, but after rumours people expected a budget mac with high gaming compatability.

So in short hand, they expected it for gaming.

No offense but for $500 you can either build a better PC system (higher specs all around), or just go out and buy a cheapo E-machines setup (including a 17" monitor) which blows this away. E-machines used to be junk but they have brought their quality way up according to recent surveys. A cheapo E-machines can have 3GHz processor, 160GB HDD, DVDRW drive, 512MB RAM, shared video (but a PCI Express slot is available for a new card), 8 in 1 card reader for camera chips. It may be bigger but I'll take one over a tiny gimmick any day . . . and I could care less about the MAC OS, XP has been very stable and fine for me for years. Like the IPOD and IPOD Shuffle, this is just another overpriced Apple product that "looks cool" but isn't worth the money, IMO. :oh_no:

I want one, damn it. And I can't really see too many people get excited over games on a Mac though, it's mainly a workstation (at least that's why I want one).
