how's everyone doing their's?

i was thinking of doing one of those "file online" things this year, but i don't know. i want to rid myself of the hassle of dropping off/sitting in an office/paying a lot of money, etc. can anyone recommend an online service that they've had luck with in the past, or would i just be better off bringing them to someone who knows what they're doing?

just trying to see what everyone else does. i'm interested to know.

I've got a degree in Accounting and if I could give one piece of advise to you it's to actually use an accountant. Look up CPA's in your area. It's usually cheaper than any of the H&R Block type services and much, much better quality.

Still waiting to do mine. I just haven't been all that concerned with doing them. Probably gonna wait a few more weeks.

Any money you pay to do your taxes is tax deductable. So... get yourself a good accountant and don't worry about it. :D I pay mine around $350 to do my taxes... I've seen WAY higher returns thanks to him... Worth every deductable penny.

I used Tax Cut. Bought it online, imported my info from last year, input my new numbers... done.

Owe Feds $164
Refund from MD was $68

There are some free on-line services that also allow you to e-file for free, though I can't remember where they are.

Meh, I just use Turbotax.com - I don't make jack $hyt3 as a student anyway. Maybe when I get a real job I'll hire a CPA, but until then I doubt it'd be worth it.

My family uses an accountant. It's cheaper and offers up great service.

I don't make jack shit and get all my money back. I have a 2 yr degree in accounting, so it's all easy to me. I don't have anything complicated like student loans, or investments or anything, so it's just a matter of adding things up and submiting it online. Still haven't gotten around to it.

It all depends on your situation :

- student with a little knowledge of accounting - You can DIY or use a e-file service.
- employed with only one source of revenues (salary) + maybe one savings account - use e-file or a cheap tax service
- single/married filing jointly with several sources of revenues (investments, savings, IRA...) use a pro.

Got the Turbotax Federal/State bundle at WalMart (no other store seems to sell them together in a bundle like this, they all sell them separately with stupid rebates). Processed the taxes in less than 10 minutes (Federal and State), importing data from last year and importing employer W2 information automatically online. I don't think I entered a single thing in the returns. My taxes aren't complicated but it is my experience that Turbotax walks you through about everything that matters.

Taxcut is probably just as good, and costs WAY less money. Like $10 for Federal by itself. PC based taxes are really easy to do and you can immediately file electronically (which I didn't do since they rip you off with online filing fees), or just print the returns to mail.

I have my accountant do mine. Saves time, fee is very reasonable... one less thing to worry about.

If you don't make shit (Like ME), you can get the "Free" service at turbotax. The fed is free. I had to pay $20 for my state, but they fucked up the CC order and it was refuned to me (they never took the funds and it "expired").

My mom used to file them for me, but now I just file them by phone.

I would use an accountant but the one I know here is a tad flaky, so no.

I think that this is the last year that you can file by phone...
