I just bought a Sky2 XM radio for the warehouse where I work. I got so fed up with listening to all the clear channel filth that I decided to take the plunge. I figure I spend at least 10 hours a day there and we're always listening to music so it was well worth the 10 bucks a month. We build roof and floor trusses and it just helps the day go by alot faster. I actually look forward to going in to work now just so I can listen to music all day.

The sound quality is pretty darn good. I have the XM radio hooked up to an old Harman Kardon receiver and some Infinity Outrigger speakers. Once you adjust the line out volume on the XM radio, it'll play pretty loud. The warehouse is really big and my setup can fill the whole place with sound.

I mostly listen to the rock and dance channels. Most of the channels are commercial free and uncensored. I really like channel 48. They play a pretty good mix of alternative and heavy metal. Some of the tracks are stuff you'd hear on the regular radio but alot of the stuff is unknown bands and B-sides. I listen to the radio pretty much all day and I've never heard the same song repeated that day.

The only thing that sucks about XM radio is the whole antenna thing. The darn thing has to have a clear view of the sky or else it won't broadcast. Other than that though, it's tits.

If you're big into music and your workplace allows you to crank it, I can't recommend sattelite radio enough. White collar workers might be fucked but all us blue collar white trash types are fucking good to go. I can't see any office environment in which someone could blare uncensored music all day long.

I was going to get Sirrus but their channel selection didn't fit my pallete as well as XM programming did. If you're into more of the death metal stuff, Sirrus is definitely the way to go. I don't mind death metal but I can't listen to that shit all day long Either way though, if you got the means, pick up an XM or Sirrus radio. Everyone at your workplace will love you and you'll get to listen to music that doesn't suck.

100% agree...
I got an XMRadio for my car for christmas, and I havent listened to regular radio since. Definately check out Opie and Anthony on 202. They are on a premium channel now but it goes free with the regular package on April 2nd. I dont know if you ever got them on regular radio where you are from but give them a shot, if you like Howard or talk like that, you will never listen to anything else. It might not be appropriate for a workplace tho...

100% Agreed.

P.S. When you listen to O&A read instant feedback and say "Vanillathunder" just think of NG.Com, because I not only rule here.. I rule on their show.

:tickled:

They're 10x better than Howard and they're picking up Ron and Fez for their channel VERY shortly.

um.. whats XM radio?

It's a radio service that you pay a monthly fee for. Seems strange at first, until you consider how much crap you are subjected to with normal radio stations.

If I listened to the radio a good bit I'd definitely go for XM, but it just isn't worth it right now for me. It is a really great servie though - I love all 80's and new wave stuff, and of course the fact that there's hardly any advertising garbage rules pretty hard.

Good to hear!
I've had XM since 2002 and have felt it was worth the cost throughout.

I've had XMradio for 2 years now and worth every cent. Now can even listen to XM via the PC but my favorite way is Myfi2GO all the way and every MLB regular season game. Listen to it at work and I just locked in a cheaper rate for 2 years before prices go up!

well for the white collar radio world, there is shoutcast....

I have read different oppions of satelite radio... Some peole say that the sound quality is lacking...... They compare it to a 128 kbps mp3... Top and bottom sounds are supposedly muffled... Quality much lower than a good FM station...

As for the channels, they are supposed to be rediculously predicable after a few days.

XM has MLB right? I'd consider picking it up for that....

Ehhh.. the quality is Digital.. and I find it MUCH clearer than terrestrial radio. The only time you get "muffling" is when your signal is bad and with my XM that's barely happening. They have the satellite feeds and terrestrial repeaters in every metro area so if you can't get the satellite, you get the rebroadcast over the local airwaves.

XM is way ahead of Sirius in the technology department by at least 2 generations. The MyFi is terrific and Sirius is going to offer a much bulkier solution later in the year, about when the MyFi2 debuts.

The tuners aren't even close.

I've been pretty impressed by the sound quality. It doesn't sound muffled at all; at least not to me.

I've become a hero at my workplace because everyone loves it so much. People still give me shit about listening to the dance stations. I don't even mind all the gay jokes because it's like you have dj spinning records at work. Even the comedy channels are pretty decent. The other day they had Larry the Cable Guy on. We're all rednecks so we can relate to the shit he's talking about. Good stuff.
