Fighter with the best BGs....

As some of you know, I got myself a SF3 machine a bit back. Just the first one, but I've played the hell out of them all. I know third strike is THE SF3 game, but the first is so badass. It's very SNKish, with the backgrounds especially. Which leads me to my title: This has, hands down, the best backgrounds in a fighting game. Anyone disagree/agree? Nice level/day changes between rounds. Some zooming effects on them, and some real great overall artistic visuals.

I'll take the BG's from second impact over third strike any day. Gamplay though third strike shits on second impacts cheat.

I'll second that. 2nd Impact had much cooler BGs. If only Capcom had thrown those into the SFAC mix. Third Strike has some great ones, but 2nd's were better overall.

My personal fave for BGs was either Vampire Hunter or Alpha 2. Alpha 2 had some of the greatest BGs ever.

Tekken 5 has some really amazing BGs for a 3D fighter. Moonlit Wilderness and Acid Rain are fucking awesome.

I will say that Alpha 2's Final Fight stage with Cody and Hagar in it is incredible. To think that SFA3 had one that was pure shit just a year or so later.... wtf?

Naw man, there were a bunch of original BGs in it, like Ken's with the big boat, Hugo's very SNKish Biergarten, Alex's rooftop stage, etc. Just better overall.

KoF '96. Any random dude can look at the game in action, look at thebackgrounds, and know for a fact its an arcade game. The backgrounds in '96 are fucking fantastic.

Fatal Fury 3 or Real Bout 2.

FF3 has the hon-fu helicoptor stage, which may just be the greatest background ever. It gived an overview of southtown, and changes from day, to sunset, to night, all with outstanding pallets. Geese Tower, South Town Beach, East Side Park and The Airport are all excellent examples of SNK at a creative peak.

RB2 has Rick's stage , which just suits the character so well. A quiet petrol station at dusk, with the canyons trailing into the distance, i never tire of seeing it.

The best 2D BGs are all more of less from:
SFa2, Vampire Hunter, AOF 2,3, SamSho 1-3, Ninja Master's, Last Blade 1, Various KOFs and a few others

3D BGs? I love Soul Calibur 2 or the realism of DOA3, and VF1s simple poly BGs in the Anniversary edition in EVO

Oh- and Guilty Gear's BGs are shit- shat from the ass of a sick housecat in the front seat of your car while you're on your way to the vet. Roll down the fucking windows asap.

Between third strike and 2nd impact, 2I has better bgs imo.

Fatal Fury Special is definitely up there too. Fuck me, Tung Fu Ryu, Geese, Kim, Mai, Duck King.... all wonderful bgs.

Man, I wanna go home and play Alpha 2 on MAME now.
So many good BGs...Chun-Li's, Rolento's elevator stage, M.Bison's stage with the airship and the Shadowlaw troops that salute when he goes by, Sodom's stage with the semi-truck, Sakura's stage...such great music too.

I really think in terms of sheer production value, SFA2 is the best Capcom fighter of all time. Yeah, the CCs break it at high-level play, but for 99.6% of the populace this isn't an issue.

Real Bout 2 has bad-ass BGs too.

The sf3 series is terrific, but the backgrounds don't really deserve a mention in this thread IMO. SNK bg's from 10+ years ago have better use of color, a grittier feel, and much more going on. Sam Sho II and III's bg's shit all over sf3's bg's - same goes for both of the LB games. KOF '99 also has some really terrific backgrounds - nothing in sf3 can fuck with the rain stage, easily one of the best bg's EVAR.
