the mars volta is a strange animal. i enjoy the music, but i have a hard time getting used to the singers voice.
sometimes i'm glad when its just the band playing minus the singer.
he does have an interesting voice, and interesting lyrics though.

I wasn't very impressed with them. From the way you described them to me I expected some sonic revolution that would melt my brains and ears together to form a giant ear-brain, but it was merely ok.

My friend gave me his copy for a few days citing that I just had to listen to it.
I did, and to me it is simply way overrated. The first "track" (basically an intro that is 1 1/2 minutes) is awsome but after that it all starts going downhill.
As posted by someone else: a lack of coherence in music does not make it more artsy, just hard to follow.
If you want to talk about good albums of months past then I recomend getting a copy of "Absolution" by Muse. Amazing record.

the new Mars Volta is just okay..... Rolling Stone thinks that this album is fucking awesome, I find that hard to swallow. Don't get me wrong, there are cool songs on the album, but you have to keep your finger over the fast forward button to get to all the music. The added noise in the tracks is exactly that, noise. It makes no sense and makes the songs a lot weaker. They should have released the album with the about 20 minutes or so of added noise taken out and the album would be way cooler and make a lot more sense.
I like the first Mars Volta a lot, this album was a dissapointment for me.
