could someone give me some tips on evading the bad guys?

i always seem to get caught, and i know it shouldn't be THAT hard to get passed the enemies in this game.

maybe i'm just not thinking enough...

any help would be appreciated :)

You need to sneak by them and shit.

Try using the directional pad to tip toe around guards.

Use your tranc wisely.

Use the first person view to look around.

Give your life, not for honour, but for love.

This is it really, I didn't even realize the D-Pad was for "sneaking" movement until I was nearly 60% done with the game the first time. As soon as I started using it the second time through, everything went smooth as silk.

yeah, the directional pad makes you sneak instead of walk in order to muffle your footsteps. i know that much, but i seem to always get caught.

i guess my real question is, do i really need to learn CQC to be successful at the game?

CQC takes a certain finesse that most people who play videogames are not used to. MGS' use of the touch sensitivity on the Dual Shock 2 is awesome, but you need to get used to it. Read the instructions, learn the basics, fuck around for a little bit. Success does not dpend on CQC knowledge alone, but it can aide you in certain tough spots.

The most important thing is getting around unseen, IMO.

Other than that blasted The End fight, I thought the game was pretty easy myself. Beat it in a day on my first try (normal diff). :kekeke: And fuck sneaking through enemies, I would just go rambo on them and kill them all. The enemy AI is pretty stupid but it's fun to slay them all. Hahahah. The story and cutscenes were badass tho, the game was well worth it for those aspects alone.

I guess if you can't sneak for the life of ya, then just do what I do and shag all their pink asses. Rape em and throw all their bodies off a cliff or something. Kill them all.

Don't feel bad, I had this problem too, and I'm a well seasoned METAL GEAR nut case from back in the day. And while MGS III unfucked most of the cluster fuck from MGS II, which to me is just pure shit, it's the very title that has single handedly ruined my taste for the franchise after MGS/MGS Twin Snakes. For having implemented so much into the control scheme, we're still too damn limited in what we can do as Snake.

**Point in case, there's really not much point in having to sneak around constantly if the first guard you come upon, you were able to slit his throat or choke him to death, then strip his dead body of his uniform, AND BE ABLE TO TAKE HIS AK-47! Even if the uniform was a bit tight/small or too big, Snake would be able to get closer to his targets and unsuspectingly kill them, and you should not have to look for weapons in boxes placed randomly throughout the game. You freckin' take it off the ppl you kill when the killin's done. Thus, Snake would just continue in this fashion depending on the area where whatever soliders in the differring uniforms were at. You'd basically Recon long enough to mimic their patterns, kill once or twice or an approximate fit, and then you more or less infiltrate right out in the open. Doing all the other Black Ops stuff when needed. The stealth aspect is okay, but like for what you're asking about, for a game that could've been phenomenal, it ended up {at least for me} being marginally "Cool" and easily forgetful. With the franchise going into the Card Game realm it can't be much brighter. I'd play MGS or MG 2: Solid Snake over MGS II or MGS III any day.

I very rarely used CQC my first time through the game, only when the guard was really close and I knew I could get him. I prefer to play with complete stealth if possible, which means no interacting with guards unless I simply can't avoid it.

I just started this game as well, and it was hard. I failed so many times in the first few "scenes", but I persevere and made it through. What I don't get about the game is that it is all about stealth and sneaking around, yet, your situational awareness is like a blind mouse. I have to constantly tap R1 to first person view to see what the hell is going on, where the guards are, and where I need to go. Then I switch back to the archaic overhead view and pray that a guard didn't sneak up on me.

I just find the controls to blow, when you are up against a wall, Snake will inevitably lean against it when you don't want to, or vice versa. And the funny thing is that when I got to Sokolov's door, I ended up alerting the whole army so I took out the machine gun, stood at the door and just shot EVERY GUARD. LOL, after a few minutes, no more guards come and I walked in as if I sneaked in. Meanwhile, there is a pile of dead guards right outside the door.

I guess Splinter Cell series really spoiled me in terms of being able to scan your surroundings and use it to your advantage.
