I'm headed to Seattle in the last week of May.
If anyone's familiar with that area and knows some cool spots or places to hang, please give me the lowdown. Thanks!

Drive 15 minutes east and visit scenic North Bend and Snoqualmie (sp?), where they filmed the greatest TV show ever: Twin Peaks.

I hear committing suicide is a popular Seattle past-time.

go to a sonics game and grab starbucks after?

Barring some kind of freak mutagenic accident involving Michael Jordan, Ray Allen and a bolt of lightning, I doubt the Sonics will be playing in late May.

You could always spray-paint "Nirvana" on an overpass.

I would check out their famous fish market, I could consider seeing the EMP (I've heard its not the greatest, but it sure sounds interesting), definitely check out their world famous downtown library that was finished last year. It's truly amazing. I've been there a number of times, but usually to see family and go to weddings. They all live in Bellevue anyway.

Thanks for some actual suggestions B.
The EMP is already a given, since my buddy I'm staying with is very hooked into that whole scene. As for the fish market, I've got mixed feelings...the store I work for makes employees watch a video about retail morale, based on that very place.
But I might anyway. The library sounds cool too. Anyone here know if they have decent public transportation there? Be a lot cooler if I don't really have to rent a car when my friend's at work.

Well, if you have time you could take a day trip to drive around the Puget Sound or maybe go and drive to see Mt. Rainer or whatever. Its a very scenic region when it isn't raining too much.

I think I would get a fat sack of heroin and some needles, lock myself in a hotel and listen to the Alice and Chains album 'Dirt'. The whole time I was there...Then I would cry some because Layne Staley is dead and I don't even know if it rained when he died like he predicted it would in the song 'Rain When I Die' from the album 'Dirt'.

There's a park I read about last time I was in seattle where you can just drive up and get heroin and crank, curb side service as it is. Maybe get a little of both and do some speedballs, maybe if you're lucky you can check-out permanantly on a speedball like Layne Staley :buttrock:

Hey loopz, i've seen that fish market video too!! I thought it was entertaining...I can't remember where or why I saw it though...

My actual suggestion is Bill Gates house, it's very very massive. if you are into old unix workstations and hardware ( i am very much ) there is a surplus store in the shipping part of downtown (towards where all the loading cranes and stuff are) that has awesome surplus hardware. Old sun workstations and stuff. Well worth the trip, but costs are a little high if you compare to ebay, but much cheaper than online surplus vendors.

Seattle's not as boring as some have claimed. It has it's hot spots and it's a pleasant place to visit. It does rain a lot but you should be safe around May. It's been real nice as of late, since the Jet Stream is swaying around California resulting in them getting our typical Mid-Winter weather(cloudy/rain). If your looking for the tourist attractions, it's not hard to miss the infamous, "Space Needle."

It's located in an area called, Seattle Center. There you'll find the EMP(Experience Music Project), that some have mentioned. If your into NBA Basketball, the Sonics Key Arena is also in this vicinity. Come May, Playoff time. Who knows, Conference Finals.

That area is called Queen Anne Hill. You should check it out. Has lots of great Cafe's and Restaurants. Yes, you will find lots of Starbucks shops during your stay. When your done there, take the Seattle Monorail(sky train) from the Seattle Center to the center of town.

If you want to know where everything happens around here, Downtown Seattle is definitely your best bet. It's where everything comes together. Very Lively. All sorts of places to go: Niketown, Westlake Center, Pacific Place, Pike Place Market(Fish Market), New Seattle Public Library(Glass exterior), Seattle Waterfront(Argosy Boat Tours, street entertainment), Gameworks Seattle(kind of played out), Cinerama(best movie theatre in the area. Episode III, anyone?). Metro is free in Downtown, btw.

Head up North on Pine Street and you'll land eventually in an area Called, Capital Hill. There, you'll hit Broadway Ave. You should find a Jimmy Hendrix statue right on the Ave. You can't miss it. Again, lots of fine shops and cafes. Some people say it looks very much like a European street area.

This is where you'll find all the stereotypes: Grunge, Hippies, Punks, Goths, indy groups, etc. Lots of nice clubs and bars to go to. Just be careful not to accidently go into a Gay one.

If your looking for the game scene there's not much left as far as Arcades go. They've been disappearing the last two years. Anyway, Gametown in Tukwila(10 min from Sea-Tac Airport) is one of last still standing. They have all the great SNK/Capcom Fighters. 2 & 4-slot MVS galore. Pretty Cheap too.

Uwajimaya/Kinokuniya(Japanese shop) is also located in the International district, Chinatown, if your into that stuff also.

Well, hope i've helped out. Enjoy your stay in the Emerald City come May.

Oh yeah, I remember Queen Anne Hill. Fun area. I also remember visiting in the late 80s and my cousin saying "This is a Starbucks, they're everywhere. They're probably going to be spreading everywhere soon".

God I wish I had the ability and/or knowledge of buying stock back then...

I also remember there was this place by the locks between the sound and the lake where you could look through windows underground and see all the salmon swiming upstream. I don't know if that's seasonal, but it was a pretty cool thing to see.

I highly recommend backpacking in Olympia National Forest if you can manage it. It's very beautiful, you just have to be careful choosing campsites because of bears and stuff.

It's kind of fun going over on the ferries and stuff too.
