My housemate had an episode of this downladed a while back.
I took a quick look at it and it seemed very faithful to the artistic style of the game. Animation was pretty good too - though I think this was the first episode, so wether it continues to be good is another question.
As for the plot and episode content -sorry no idea.

Joe looks a little too much like Fred Durst, whom I still think was the inspiration for his character design, thus just as it ruined the overall game for me, I could not in good faith buy nor watch that series. *Wish GENON would license something that's actually worth licensing. But then all the Bishojo crap is overtaking the Japanimation standard, thus I guess anime will be stuck with poster kids of too femminine looking viper queens and out and out butt cowboys. THIS is what my children have to grow up watching!???

I can see it now: "Dad can you buy me the Ultimate Hero Adonis"
= Me in 6 years > "What the hell is that?"
Kid > "It's this new Anime that's on Toonami, here dad take a look."

I proceed to see all manner of ultra GAY looking characters piloting giant mecha and casting spells on enemies, knowing full well I'll be at TOYS R US, through clentched teeth buying the action figures and art books and video games to some shitty overly glossed over series, thinking the whole time. "Damn kid, what's wrong with Hokuto No Ken, or Ninja Scroll? Naah, you gotta' buy into this new age faggotry and have your father buy utter SHIT. In my day we had freckin' G.I. JOE and Transformers G1. We had UFO Robot Grendizer, SDF Macross, Mospeada... Bubblegum Crisis etc." Hopefully my kids will have a much broader appreciation for the older stuff since I intend to show them what most of us who grew up in the 80's were weaned on, and let them progress into whatever will be contemporary at the time.

You do know that, when they made The Big O, they initially set out to just design a cool robot that they could sell to kids, and the story was kinda secondary, don't you? (Its in one of the interviews on one of the first DVD's).
That dosen't stop The Big O from being a really cool series though, and often with anime - you have to kinda look behind the 'faggy' chartacter designs to discover that there's actually a really good story in there.

Merc's example of UFO Grendizer is another attempt at marketing as well. Popy (or whoever was doing the Mazinger toys) approached Go Nagai and asked him to make something that would appeal to a broader market and be different from the Mazinger line. Thus they changed the way the robot was done, and made it so different pieces could be purchased separately from the toy to attach to it.

Koutetsu Jeeg, another 70s Super Robot show, had a similar gimmick. Designed by Go Nagai, just as Grendizer was. This robot had different arm attachments to be purchased separately.

I know where Merc is coming from, but he's a little off skew.

Merc is a little close minded and a little too nostalgic when it comes to Anime. He's done the right thing by not really sticking with it, since it's not what he wants it to be, rather than buying and watching stuff just because he feels he SHOULD. Merc, you should also remember that the shows are made in Japan, with Japanese fans in mind. 95% of the companies making this stuff don't care what you or I want, only what the Japanese fan wants. Unfortunately for you, it's not what you want them to make. I enjoy the shows today just as much as the shows from the past.
