I voted for Psikyo as Gunbird 2 is probably my favorite but Seibu and The Raiden Project are an oh so extremely very close second.

For me its all about Cave. Daioujou is the hardest, most awesome shooter ever made. The bosses are huge and the bullet patterns are beautiful.

Their new game Mushihime is really really good. And I saw in the new arcadia they have another one coming. The art looks super dark and evil. Im stoked.

Espgaluda, Ketsui (don't forget this one guys) and dai ouh jou turned me into a huge Cave fan recently. That's why I chose this one but it's still hard to say on a long term period.

Definitely Seibu.
I loved the early Raidens of the early 1990's. The absolute pinnacle, IMO is the stellar Viper Phase 1.

Really? The bosses in DOJ are just big hunks of metal...imo very un-original. The bosses in Ketsui on the other hand are very nicely done and interesting.

I voted for Cave because they have more games that I want to play although Raizing makes my fav. shooter.

I grew up on Gradius and Life Force on the NES.

Gradius III on the SNES was beautiful back in the day.

Axelay was a blast, but hard as hell (Still haven't made it past level 4.).

I bought a PS2 because of Gradius III & IV.

After playing Gradius Gaiden, the Parodius, Salamandar and Twinbee collections on the Saturn, I fell in love with Konami shooters all over again.

Mars Matrix is by Takumi, not Capcom. Capcom just published it.

Takumi are also responsible for the Giga Wing trilogy and Night Raid. Kyukyoku Tiger II on the Saturn was more of a port than an original title.

I like Psikyo the best, followed by CAVE. Psikyo because of its simpler games.
CAVE is awesome too, but their games get me a little bit irrate from time to time.
To rigid, very unforgiving & frustrating at times.

I didn t like Radiant Silvergun (i know, i am an heretic), but i loved Ikaruga and Sylpheed on both SCD and PS2.

It could be a draw game with cave if i happen to play Esp Galuda (i love Esp Ra De, killer action, killer music tatatatatatatatatatata)

All the companies listed are excellent, and I play games from all of them. It's hard to decide, I think I'd go with Cave (DDP DOJ, Progear; haven't played Ketsui) or Toaplan (Fireshark, Batsugun). I'm currently playing Gunbird [Saturn] by Psikyo which is also tops.

though you left out my fave of their works > Sengoku Ace II. I'd have voted COMPILE for their work on such masterpieces like ALESTE: Full Metal Fighter Ellinor if it had been an option, but Psikyo makes some damn good shooters and easily my fave out of what is on this poll.

Last year I went on holiday to Japan. I took with me a list of games that everyone said were good. Not having ever actually seen them in person, I bought them purely based on recommendation. I had played Gunbird, Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, R Type Delta, RayStorm, Gradius, Parodius... My favourite shooter was Battle Squadron on the Amiga followed closely by Omega Boost on the PS1. Anyway, I had gotten back from shopping and sat down in my weekly mansion, plugged in my Saturn, shoved DoDonPachi in the machine and started shooting away... My jaw just dropped, I would have fallen off my chair it it weren't for my jaw holding me up. Never before had I played a shooter so flawlessly created. So many bullets, amazing, and still I was able to weave in and out of them giving a real feeling of achievement. DoDonPachi was then my best game for about a year until you know what came along? DoDonPachi DaiOuJou - yep, they bettered themselves. This game is awesome. I had gotten ESP Ra De (fantastic) and played their medi-evil shooter Guwande? (this is a close second favrouite - I hope they port it to a console soon)...

Cave currently holds the crown for best shooter company in my eyes. All the others are fantastic too, really hard to choose one, but when Cave stands out so much with their small handfull of games, it's for a reason!

btw. It's really nice to know I am not a lone wierdo who doesn't just like 3D games... All the games you mention with the exception of Battle Garegga are fantastic (BG I don't know cause I haven't played it).
