Should've joined the suckfest that is Asura.

Sure, it's got the highest n00b-to-good player ratio of all the servers... and its prices are the most inflated... and it's been lagging a lot lately... but I'm there and could have hooked you up with plenty of teh gilz.

Meh... I don't think anybody here really plays FFXI much anymore.

There were a few people when it first hit the shelves, but the heat quickly died down.

Anyway, seeing that nobody else seems to care, I might as well say that I'm still and always will be a FFXI fanboy.

I played the US PC version for a while after it came out, I never got all that high with my jobs (highest was a 53BRD with most other jobs to 20, except WHM, which was at 36...) but I had a blast doing so. Then I quit about 4-5 months back and started doing/playing other things, but then I recently got the itch to start playing again, so... I did.

Found a great LS full of fun and knowledgeable players on Asura (quite a few high-levels too) and started all over again, but now as a Summon. I actually just dinged twenty a few hours ago and was preparing to start my level twenty avatar battles, but due to server maintenance, I won't be able to get on my way until later tonight.

But yeah... the game rocks and it's taken up 100% of my free time/gaming time again - no big deal though, since I'm having a blast and can't wait to give a shot at being a SMN, since they sound like so much more fun to play since their upgrade.

Yeah... well... I like it.

Non-existent.

They've got some lame goal/soccer-type game called Ballista, but it sucks.

It's basically just an excuse for middle-tier DD's to try and prove who does more damage while the BLM's and RNG's own all their sorry asses.

Don't care though, PvP doesn't interest me in the slightest.

If I wanted some PvP I'd play KOF98 or something...

lol, level 75 redmage on Phoenix. :p I just don't post much about it on NG anymore, it's better to keep the MMO stuff on Alla forums where it belongs.

The level 20 SMN fights are a trip, but I recommend that you get as much defense as possible on your equipment before going in. The attrition method (fight 60% then 2 Searing Lights) is very reliable if executed correctly, as opposed to the 3 SL method which is mostly luck.

Summoner is a lot of fun to play in party since S-E gave their pacts both skillchain and magic burst properties, but skilling up Summoning magic is still way too slow and painful.

I've gone the 3 SL method and already have Ifrit, Titan, and Ramuh.

Didn't even fight the avatars on their weakest day, although I did catch Ramuh on Lightsday, but even not on Lightsday SL has been hitting for 210-230 each time and is easily finishing them off with three hits.

I heard people getting frantic about not having enough DEF, but I like to try things on my own as much as I can (no Protect II/III or Shell from others) and haven't had a problem so far, despite my fragile Taru nature.

I just snagged a pair of Physical Earrings, a bunch of +EVA gear, some Boiled Crab, my standard Protect, whatever Bar- spell I had with me and went to town -- I haven't even really needed to use more than one Hi-Potion per fight.

Maybe I'm just lucky with my Carby shots, but I'm doing pretty good so far, so I can't complain. But the biggest problem I seem to be having is with my servers (Asura) horrible inflation rates, since by the time I buy all my avatar materials and fame-increasing goods, I'm going to be broke.

Well, I'm a total noob to all this, I have never played a mmorpg before, and I am having a blast, plus my roommate is the same level monk, so I have someone to hang out with :buttrock:

Do as many individual quests as you can. Seriously. Using online walkthrus, they're relatively quick, you get fame, and you get a little cash (it'd be a lot, but some of the early quests cost money, need to do them to get to the later quests). By the time the mini-trials came out, the only fame I needed to get was Norg, which paid for itself several times over in ninja scrolls. The regular town quests pay for themselves once you quest the teleport scrolls.

I've heard about Asura's economy. :oh_no:

As for 3 SL, I keep hearing that resists on SL kill people who do it that way. I hope that your luck there continues!

I actually ended off doing fairly well in terms of cost towards getting the needed fame, the only real areas which I needed fame were Norg and San d'Oria.

San d'Oria was easy, I just snagged several [cheap] stacks of flint stones and that did it in.

And for Norg, I just slaughtered Yag's in Giddeus for some necklaces then just bought a couple dozen more.

It's pretty bad.

I haven't felt it until now, but after blowing 8k per Ether (yes... 8k per Ether) I'm starting to realize that it's only going to get progressively worse.

I've yet to look at the prices for high-end equipment and materials, since I'm not at that level yet, but just by listening to my LS mates and various other Asura members, I'm fully aware of how crappy the economy is.

My luck ran out early this morning on Garuda.

Bitch resisted my first two SL shots then proceeded to rape me and Carby quite viciously, I had even fought her on Lightsday too, since I heard her and Ramuh gave people the most trouble.

Kind of a pain that I have to wait another day to take a shot at her, but nothing in this game is ever as easy as it seems, so I'm not too surprised.

So aside from her, I just have Leviathan to do, who I'm about to fight once I trek my way to Norg.

those SMN solo fights were the only part of FFXI i wish i'd stuck around for.
you guys get props for sticking with this game, i never made it past 30 on any character after several re-rolls. i think that my solo fight vs. the rank 3(?) dragon is still hosted on alla somewhere though :buttrock:

You need to stop by if I ever get my NIN sub to 37, then you'll see a REAL summon solo fight. ;)

Yes, RDM/NIN is what I meant, sorry, edited for clarity.

Speaking of burning yourself out by levelling to 30 too many times, my NIN is coming up awfully slow. I'd love to have it at 37, but I have no desire to play it to 37. Sigh.

I knew that's what you meant.

Even though I have no intention or desire to play RDM or NIN, I'd have to say that an endgame-level RDM/NIN looks like one of the most fun jobs you can play.

Self-sufficient and able to dish out serious ownage... very cool stuff.
