As I was playing KOF2003, all of a sudden everything that suppose to be in white changed to purple. Then I turned my cab off. When I switched it on again I get this error message.

What does this mean, and can it be fixed? I am using a MV-1 with Unibios.

It means that either one of the RAM chips on the MVS has died or there is a damaged trace on the PCB. The fact that it died while playing a game more point to a fault on a RAM chip unless something dropped on the MVS while playing for example.

These ram chips are the Sony CXK5864, located on a MV-1 behind the joy ports. Should be easy enough to replace with some other 64k sram.

Off topic question:

Does that means that each carts of a MVS board are tested before you start to play everytime you turn on the cab ?

The cart isn't checked but all the MVS RAM is. If you have a Universe Bios you can skip the tests all together or even have the error but then continue so at least in some cases the system is still playable.
