Anyone get this yet? How about playing online? It looks and plays pretty much the same as the first game, but that's not really a bad thing. There's more depth for online play now, and two new races to play as. I should be online with mine within the next couple of days, I'll post my info then.

I started playing the first game (Champions of Norrath) about a week ago, and a friend who is really into it told me I should really start at the beginning with Baldurs Gate, and move on from there (BG2, CoN, then Return to Arms). I loved what I saw of the first CoN game though before I switched to BG1. I've decided these are the types of RPGs I really love, lots of action and hacking up creatures and tons of stuff to collect and upgrade. AND, I like controlling only one character, not a small group of them as many RPGs go.

Anyway my friend said she loves Return to Arms, and from what I can see even if it is mostly like the first one (CoN), but with new levels, characters, etc. then its a recipe for success. This series of games by Snowblind Studios is outstanding for sure!

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance was a stellar game. It really came out of nowhere to become one of my favorite PS2 titles, as I also prefer the action RPG's. I was a little disappointed that Snowblind would not be working on BGDA2, but as it turned out, Champions of Norrath was a killer game. The online aspect needed some work though. Return to Arms is also great, but there are still some online flaws.

You can no longer import characters to the online game at will. This is to prevent abuse of the import feature, as lots of players were duplicating rare items and gold in this manner. So you basically have to have an offline and a seperate online character as far as I can tell. Also, you can't play online in a game by yourself, the game requires you to have one other person to play online.

BTW, there's probably no need to play BGDA first, as the story in that one is completely unrelated to Champions of Norrath.

Been playing it for a week or so

Online play seems to be marred by people in your party with WAY more shit/experience than you have- and I deliberately pick 'New Players, inexperienced' type of online match-ups.

I was frustrated, cause I just wanted to play with low-level people. I have read that, as with the first game, online is often marred with cheats.

And your offline/online characters aren't 'concurrent' they are separate- as you have server-side storage of online characters- unlike the first game.

I am more into offline play- as I'm sure my post indicated already, haha

ill pass on it unless my bro buys it which i doubt. that genre is way too tired and that graphic engine has been run into the ground then beat relentlessly the past 2 years. i mean there are like 5 or 6 games that look and play identical because of that damn engine.

i played the first CON and thought it was cool. played BG: DA and though "damn didnt i play this before". then played the sequal and though FUCK THIS. then like 3 other identical games came out i didnt even bother with.

hats funny is none of them are as good as the original pc baldurs gate or come even close to diablo ii b4 they fucked it up. :tickled:

Anyone play Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes? Or Demon Stone? They look to be similar in style to the BG and CoN games, just wondered how they were.

Oh and to Ghost-Dog, I know what you mean about the stories being different on CoN and BG, but I figured I'd just start at the first game and move on from there . . . just to see how Snowblind changes their games over time (hopefully for the better!).
