OK, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread similar to the PGM one, in order to keep track of how many people own this board and what games. Since it is so hard right now to get loose games, I feel we could need to resource to trade the games between us. So please, if you've got it post here and say which game(s) you have, plus any other relevant info you might want to share.
This is the known Atomiswave games list, from http://www.system16.com/other/hrdw_atomiswave.html :
Regular games:
Demolish Fist
Dolphin Blue
Guilty Gear X 1.5
Guilty Gear Isuka
Knights of Valour Seven Spirits
Rumble Fish
The King of Fighters Neowave
Rumble Fish 2
Quite unknown games (anybody have more info about the first 2?):
Premier Eleven
Sushi Bar
Salaried Worker Golden Taro (appearently (http://www.sammy.co.jp/japanese/product/amusement/atomiswave/kintaro/index.html#) it needs a special "gambling" cab)
Ken Ju
Dirty Pigskin Football
Special games (need special cab/controls):
Extreme Hunting
Faster Than Speed
Maximum Speed
Ranger Mission
Sports Shooting USA
Possibly canceled games:
Force Five
Confirmed upcoming games:
Neo Geo Battle Colosseum
Samurai Spirits Tenka
King of Fighters XI
Fist of the North Star
Announced future games:
Metal Slug 6
Sammy vs Capcom

howdy. as you may know I'm a pseudo Atomiswave owner for the time being (its getting worked on). The game I have with it is Dolphin Blue. when I find any solid info on the net I will be sure to post it up.
I've played a bunch of AW games at the arcades, namely shooting games:
Sports Shooting USA (alot of fun)
Ranger Mission (weird war simulator where you get a shotgun but it sometimes fires missiles (depends the level) will give it another shot (heh..) but I didn't like it much)

Ops, I forgot to say my own info, I have a consolized (by supergoose79) AW with KOF Neowave and Dolphin Blue. I had Knights of Valour 7 Spirits and Demolish Fist but traded them, and a friend of mine here has the AW with KoF Neoave.

Knights of Valour is quite an elusive title - not too much on the net about it. who is it made by (is it Japanese or Taiwanese)? does it play/look good?

I also own an AW mother board with a Knights of Valour 7 Spirits cart. Personally I love the game, if you're a 2D beat'em up fan it's hard not to. A good mix of characters and stages along with nice animation and solid gameplay make it a winnar for me.

It is made by IGS, the developer of the PGM board and the previous KoV games on it. I think they are actually Korean but I'm not sure.
I actually own the PGM with the first KoV and I like it more than the AW one. It's not bad, but I found it quite repetitive and without many possibilities. Graphics are cool on TV (and total crap in a VGA monitor, due to low-res 2Dsprites and hi-res 3D backgrounds).
I'll try to post some pics of this games tomorrow, one of the purposes of this thread is actually to share info between us.

If you could, I'd love to see some side by side pics of the game running on a TV and monitor. I've only played it on my TV but thought it looked very nice. I've heard from many people thought that the low-res 2D sprites and 3D backgrounds clash bad. And if that's the case I can't believe they make them like that as they were meant to be in an arcade on a cab.

It's smooth and responsive. Much like the Dreamcast version. Personally I don't understand why they didn't just release GGX2 but meh, I like Guilty Gear enough that I have fun playing it.
Isuka is a bit different though. I really haven't spent too much time with it.

I will probably be looking to trade my Dolphin Blue cart soon after I get it (if not before), as I am more about the fighters than anything else. this GGX ver.1.5 may be where I end up heading.
I didn't know there was a football game...what special things do you need for it?
I have an Atomiswave with Demolish fist and it's art etc...

I also have a dedicated Atomiswave cabinet. The games I currently own are:
King of Fighters NeoWave
Rumble Fish
Demolish Fist
Can't wait to get my paws on Neo Geo Battle Coliseuim
I have:
mobo
Demolish Fist
Dolphin Blue
Knights of Valour: Seven Spirits
Guilty Gear Isuka
King of Fighters Neowave
(running through my supergun, not enough space for a cab :crying: )
I used to have The Rumble Fish, but I traded it for Neowave. I have put far more time into Dolphin Blue than any other game on ATW, and I still don't ever get tired of it. I'm quite certain that it can be beaten on one credit.
Rumble Fish was fun, I would buy it again if the price drops at all after the PS2 port is released.
How much do you all think NGBC kits will run? Maybe we'll see a 4-figure price tag?

I have an Atomiswave with the following:
Demolish Fist (Japanese)
The Knight of Valor 7 Spirits (Japanese)
Dolphin Blue (Japanese)
Guilty Gear Isuka (Japanese, PS2 verson is better)
About KOV 7 Spirits: GS is indeed a Chinese company.
Also, does anyone know the code to get the 7th Character? I know its done at the character select screen. You fight him later in the game, but hese not the real end boss. I think you must use him to see the "True" end boss, but I'm not sure.

As it's been said, to connect any arcade board to a TV you need a full device called a supergun. The Atomiswave can also be hooked to a VGA monitor with a regular VGA cable, but you will also need to power-up the board and wire controls and sound, so a supegun is still needed.
Check these threads for more info:

As I said the pics are not great, but in the TV the game looks very good. The sprites are 2D and have a zoom/scaling effect when coming close/far to the screen, but the pixelation is not that bad. However, in the monitor they look terribly pixelated, even the backgrounds look quite bad. This game is meant to be played in low-res.
--------------------------------------------------------------
By the way, I just looked at my carts and found some very small letters that seem to show the region in the lower right corner. It doesn't make any difference because both games (and I assume all AW games) have both a region (Japan, America, Europe...) and language (English, Japanese) setting in the options screen. See them, there's JP (Japan) in the KoV and EN (English) in the DF cart:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/amanojacu/fotos/kov/awcarts.jpg
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The current games I want to get the most are Dolphin Blue (I'd trade any of my games for it) and Neowave. Due to ports I'd only take GGX1.5, Isuka and Rumble Fish if I had a nice offer. And of course, the game I'm looking forward the most is NGBC, too bad I'm pretty sure it will cost around 2000$ on release, I'll have to wait a long time before being able to afford it, and possibly ports will already be out at that time. All the other upcoming games look good too, but I need more info about them before getting really interested.

I know, its just that on the monitor it looks terrible and just wanted to know if that's the way it looks or if in montion its not as bad.
also, is the game long? and does it have alot of moves per character?
a problem I have with some beat 'em ups such as Mutaion Nation is that the characters fight the same way throughout the game - and if there's no weapons to pick up or no transformation in the character itself it gets dull very quickly. how does this game perform in this respect?

Yeah, the monitor really looks that terrible. TV is OK though.
The game is quite long, 8 stages, and in a lot of stages yo can choose which one to do from a list of 3. Anyway I didn't find a lot of moves per character (I hope Verbatum can correct me), you have a weak and a strong attack buttons, you can do different attacks comboing them, plus 2 special attacks pressing A+B or B+C (consumes a stock), and a berserk mode pressing A+C (unlimited special attacks while in this mode, needs to have the berserk bar full to activate it). There are 6 different characters and they are all quite different. I think that playing 2 players you can do a special combined attack but I haven't played 2 players yet.

Since these are rom-based carts, do you suspect that pirates and bootleg makers will eventually catch on and make AW boots? I hope the answer is no, but just curious if there's any sort of copy protection built into the carts or system.

Well, the game data is supposed to be heavily encrypted, the biggest chip is the logic desencryptor. It's supposed not to be able to be bootlegged. Naomi is a much older system and as far as I know it hasn't been pirated.
If I may ask, where did you buy it (online store, auction, personal seller, etc).
I traded it for some Naomi games to a member here. He got it from the (in)famous German on-line dealer arcaderick.
Alright thank, but for that I can use a Arcade Sigma too, can I?
Yes, any JAMMA compatible supergun should work, as the AW is fully JAMMA.

I really have no idea, and there's really little info about this game in the internet. I pictured the fight you mentioned, that guy with the white beard and the arrows is in the PGM KoV game. He is not the last boss, there's more stuff after him. However when I fought the last boss I thought he was supposed to be the 7th star, not sure though.

probably a loke test
wouldn't be that suprising. not only is there a high competitive level of gaming in the realm of fighters (atleast there was 5 years ago), but if memory serves they used to do loke tests near to thast place mentioned in that thread. I used to always go there, by goodge street station I think. they always had great fighters there.
even better though was the old Namco place that wasin central London and had all the fighters there. it was a great place to go for the competition (especially since I had a couple of friends who where monsters playing the Alpha/KOF games).

I don't know Japanese, but appearently that auction is for only the cart and the extras, mobo not included. However the cardboard box originally contained the mobo, so this doesn't mean Sammy is selling the carts separately, just that somebody kept the mobo and is selling the game.
It says "ROM" in the description, and 20000Y=190$ is an accurate starting price for just that game.

More info here:
http://www.tops-game.jp/part/04videoconverter.htm
Appearently is just a video converter to use the Atomiswave and other boards with a VGA-like video output such as Naomi, in a TV. It mentions "31khz", but no TV would accept that through s-video or composite, which is what that thing outputs. I thought something like this could only work if the arcade board has to be set to low res (15khz)... Oh well, it's nothing special, there are plenty of cheaper and smaller RGB->NTSC converters, and we Europeans have scart. In fact, I think it would be easier to just use a PC monitor with the hi-res mode.

i've currently got an unplayable ggx isuka setup due to the difference in buttons with mvs setup.
i'm still wary of ngbc, the main reason i purchased the wave in the first place. worst case, look for a selling thread in the near future. best case, i end up buying/modding sticks to play ngbc and who knows what else.
i had dolphin blue originally, and traded for demolish fist before isuka. both were very mediocre imho.

Pretty much the same here. Got it with RumbleFish...meh. Picked up DemolishFist....meh. Then grabbed Dolphin Blue...SUPER meh, weakest of all 3 I had. So, I got rid of it all. I might get NGBC if its badass and it gets to a realistic price for me. Otherwise, bring teh PS2 port!

can you specify what makes Dolphin Blue so bland though? at worse, judging from the pics and movies, it looks like your average run 'n gun 80s/90s game.

SOOPAH boring, no character, repetetive enemies, and slowdown that makes Last Resort look speedy. [I realize thats a bit of an overstatement, but it does have some major slowdown] I dunno, it always boils down to personal preference...but Demon Front is 3 bazillion times better as are all the slugs, 4 included. So, money is better spent on something else IMO

alright, since Dolphin Blue gets such a universally bad rap, and these kind of games on freeplay kind of don't do it for me at all (I mean you have to want to limit yourself to a couple of credits if you want to be challenged, I don't know how you guys do it), I'm thinking of trading up the Dolphin blue cart before I pick it up. problem boils down to price though. whereas Dolphin Blue goes for about 200/230 and something like Demolish Fist 100/130, what do other games go for? they have not been thrown on the market nearly as much so I have no clue. I want Guilty Gear Ver.1.5 but what is its value? not easily verified right?

I would say the slowdown in DB is comprable with the MS games, usually less.
Remember that like the Slugs everything is animated so there is always alot happening at once.(esp. 2player)
Yeah its generic, bland, uninspired ect.. but its still pretty fun.(IMO)

Correct you'll probobley end paying whatever the sellers asking price is as a loose cart of GG 1.5 is not easy to find. :crying:

If AW is emulated any time soon I dont see it as a problem. Only piracy would be a problem.
Much like when modern Neo Geo games were being released, only people who were to buy aes/mvs would buy them anyway, emulation is for the casual user who would not spend the money in probably 95% of cases.

very true, just that emulation is a step in the right direction for piracy to take place isn't it? I have little idea about this - if a game is dumped can it then be pirated?

I don't agree with this. First of all, emulation and bootlegging usually go together, or in fact bootlegging comes first. They both need to dump the roms (easy part) and then decrypting them (hard part). After that, bootleggers need to produce a pirate cart and emu programmers create the emulator, that should run in standar PCs. Also take care that if the emulation level was good enough, even if there were no bootlegs arcade ops could still use TEH ROMZ in MAME-like cabs.
For example CPS2 was only decrypted and emulated at the end of its life, when it was not profitable to bootleg it anyway.
Anyway, if people could play this games at home without paying a penny, who would go to the arcade to drop coins in them? The Neo Geo arcade scene began to die when emulators started to be available. I agree it didn't hurt that much AES and home MVS users (actually it might have increased them) because of the reasons you state, but anyway the true bussiness is in the arcade market (that of course it was also already more damaged by bootlegs). Right now, the home users of the AW are totally insignificant. It could also hurt the ports market (where the true home money is).
Finally, I wouldn't bother that much. I guess that French site is a joke (HPMAN, LOL). The Guru can dump as many carts as he wants, but I doubt it is possible to decrypt them, and even if it was they won't (hopefully) release them. Programming the emulator shouldn't be that hard, as the AW is basically a DC and it is already emulated.

I've always thought that game makers should put really nasty viruses in the code that would not affect dedicated hardware but would fuck up your computer. that or somehow have the cart/media itself self destroy upon attempting to dump it.

That's more or less what Capcom did with some CPS1 games, and all CPS2 and CPS3 boards, including suicide batteries in them. Thanks to it CPS2 and 3 were never bootlegged, but at the price of fucking all the current home arcade users. I always said SNK should have done the same in, say, 1995, creating a MVS2 with suicide batteries. But thankfully for some it didn't happen.

Wow... bad news for Sammy/SNKP for sure. I am sure they figured it was coming though. I had wondered why Atomiswave had not been emulated before because of how close it is to the DC and we all know DC is emulated, but like Amano Jacu said, the hard part will be decrypting those roms, I don't think that anyone has broken the encryption on CPS3 yet unless there is something I haven't heard of yet and they have been working on that one for a while.

OK, we have finally received the Neowave kit from Shawn for a friend here. I thought I would post some info here.
First of all, the game is almost a photocopy of 02. The backgrounds are in higher res but they are totally lifeless. Geese's sprite looks like shit (and he's a damn cheap and impossible bastard boss  ). I am not a good enough KoF player to appreciate improvements in the gameplay, but the future owner of this kit is so I hope he can tell better.
One important thing: IT IS POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE BUTTON CONFIGURATION so it matches the MVS set-up or whatever you want (select can be the 5th button, i.e. "heat"). Proof:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/amanojacu/fotos/neowave/neowaveconf.jpg
The game looks really smooth graphic-wise through RGB in my TV. The pic is shit as always, but believe me, it looks very clear:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/amanojacu/fotos/neowave/neowavergb.jpg
When put in hi-res through VGA in my PC monitor, as expected, the game looks like SHIT, the fighters are low-res so they are incredibly pixelated. Backgrounds look just OK.

How did you get into that "Game settings" screen? I would love to change the controls to match MVS; it confuses the hell out of me going back and forth between Neowave and '02, '03, '96, whatever.
Fun game, even though you're right about the similarities to '02. But I don't mind, seeing as '02 is my favorite KoF, and the grooves make for a nice addition. Backgrounds look really nice, too.

@DevilRedeemed: I already heard the AW driving games are shitty. They should focus on classic 2D games. I saw the shooting games in Canada, they are at least OK.
About loading, I agree it is non-sense in arcade games while playing. Neowave loads for quite a while on start-up (so no problem here), but I didn't notice it in-game.
@Mr-Megalo: My usual PC monitor, the one pictured in this thread, is LCD. However I also tried the AW in my old CRT monitor and it worked too. It's a matter of luck if the AW is compatible or not with a certain monitor. Pics of my 2 monitors:

@jro: You have to access the configuration screen by turning DIP switch 2 on. Notice that you can navigate it pressing start, and select option with the service button (if you don't have it wired then it's a total pain). Then select an option called "configuration", and then "game settings". There you can change options like difficulty, time, etc, and then the buttons. You can also introduce a password, if you put the one in my screen, you unlock all the secret characters (I think the area has to be in "other", use configuration / system settings to change it). Press start while selecting certain characters to get the extra ones (for example press start while selecting K' to get Geese, etc).

I sent email to Sammy USA and to the Northeast distributors from their site asking about the I/O expansion, the 3P/4P harness, the connector for stereo sound, and... when the damn kits would be available seperately. No replies yet...
I see that Sammy will only sell in lots of 12:
Minimum Orders
Amusement/Coin-Op Merchandise: 12 Pieces PER ITEM, Assorted (EXAMPLE: 12 beanies total, 12 coin purses total, etc.)
Are there at least 12 of us that could use the I/O expansion and the harness? I just left a message with the salesperson at Sammy (sat on hold for 10 minutes). I'll see if I can get some pricing info for some of this stuff. Maybe we can do a group purchase.

04-08-2005, 07:21 PM
Well, after having spent quite some time with the game, here's the review.
I like the game, I would give it a 8 out of 10. However it could have been much better if they had fixed some flaws. The game is fun, quite intense, and has really nice graphics, specially in hi-res mode. Since they are not recycling any sprite stuff from low-res games (like Neowave and KoV), the 2D sprites don't look out of place with the 3D backgrounds and some 3D bigger enemies.
The game has around the same length of any Metal Slug, and I think it has quite a life if you try to beat it using as few credits as possible (or even 1cc). Although it is a Metal Slug rip-off, at least there are some new elements with the Dolphins and the special attacks you can use instead of grenades.
And now the flaws. The first one is that there are terrible slowdowns in many parts of the game. With the supposed power of the AW there is no excuse. The second is the animation of the main character, not only he is a bit slow, but he doesn't run nor walk, just "slides", without crossing his legs, like "walking sideways". If he had a running or a classical down+jump slide (like sunset riders or MS5) the game would be a bit fresher. The funny thing is that when you clear a stage, he starts running in a better animation but you can't control it.
I also feel that the game should have more secrets and "funny hidden jokes" like the Metal Slugs and Demon Front as it would really ensure more replayability.
So far, for me is the best AW game I have played (the other being Demolish Fist, Knights of Valour and Neowave) and I think right now is the second cheaper and easier to find game (the first being Demolish Fist), so I highly recommend it.
And now the screenshots. The game looks much smoother in hi-res, but on the TV looks great too. Take care that my camera sucks, speciall when picturing the TV.

I think on the second level there is some "loading" when you go from the water onto the boat its like a long pause, for me the game was o.k too its just a shame there is not anything better of this type for the system.

The low-res shots don't do justice to it, I guess it's my camera's fault, but the game also looks very well in the TV. In the monitor it looks sharper though, but I can play no problem in the TV too.

can the low/high res mode work on another cab? Some like a Blitz cab?
Amano Jacu

Well, it depends on the cab monitor. If it is is 15 khz only compatible, then you can only use it in low res. If it supports 31 khz, then you can use hi res.
By the way, shameless plug: if somebody wants to trade Dolphin Blue for, for example, Guilty Gear X 1.5 or Rumble Fish, have a look at this:

I just made a trade involving that extra Dolphin Blue I had and got Neowave. It came with an Atomiswave manual, and I made a very interesting discovery:
To change the Atomiswave options in the configuration screen (accessible via DIP switch 2), you need the test and service buttons. We knew that you could use 1P start instead of test to navigate, and some game (like Demolish Fist) allowed the use of some other button to select options, but not all, and in the rest service was a must. Well, if you press the 1P start button for more than 1 second, it acts as service, so you can change the options with just the start button, which is very convenient.

Also got 3 carts for a total of $440.
Dolphin Blue
Demolish Fist
Guilty Gear X 1.5
I think I have gotten the most playtime out of Dolphin Blue.
I have been searching furiously for Sushi Bar, but to no avail. If only I had some Japanese friends with lots of time on their hands to go looking for it. Sigh.

Question for you or anyone else who knows: what the heck is Ken Ju? New ATW games are always welcome, and I sure hope this one doesn't turn out like Force Five. Anyone played or bought it?

Demolish Fist (Japanese)
The Knight of Valor 7 Spirits (Japanese)
Dolphin Blue (Japanese)
Guilty Gear Isuka (Japanese, PS2 verson is better)
About KOV 7 Spirits: GS is indeed a Chinese company.
Also, does anyone know the code to get the 7th Character? I know its done at the character select screen. You fight him later in the game, but hese not the real end boss. I think you must use him to see the "True" end boss, but I'm not sure.
I have an AW with the same games, and I too would like to know how the 7th spirit can be un-locked!!!!

Back on topic: my IO board and 3P/4P harness showed up today. As I mentioned earlier, $102 for the IO board from a distributor... and $68 for the harness
http://www.shadowsworn.com/images/aw_io.jpg
This harness should only work for GG:I. You need a different one for shooters and yet another one for the driving games. Not only that, but there are sub boards as well. There was a pair of Ranger Mission carts on ebay a few weeks back. I almost jumped on one, but after putting together the cost of the cart, the replacement guns from Happ, this IO board, the other harness for the guns and the gun sub board... it quickly took the wind out of my sails.
Has anyone played Ranger Mission? How is it?

Im going to get an atomiswave soon for my comming soon candy cab.

Rumble Fish is pretty fun, but not great. The sequel is already out, might consider waiting for the price to drop on it instead. Or you could get the JP PS2 version of The Rumble Fish for $60 instead of spending the $ for the ATW cart. I had it and traded it for Neowave. Fun, and I'd probably buy it back if the price was right, but it would have to be kind of low given what I just mentioned.
Neowave is solid, but it still tends to sell for very high prices and is very similar to KoF 2002. It has 3 grooves, and being able to just-defend in KoF is pretty sweet, but it's not revolutionary by any means.
If you're a Guilty Gear fan at all, Isuka is really good. And though I've never played it, there's actually an X 1.5 on eBay right now.
Of all my games (Neowave, GG: I, Demolish Fist, Dolphin Blue, and Knights of Valor: the Seven Spirits), I have played Dolphin Blue and Isuka by far the most. If you like shooters you may like Dolphin Blue (but read through the rest of the thread, a lot of people don't like it), and it's not too exorbitant, price-wise. And KoV is a fun 2-D beat 'em up that's worth picking up and owning, IMO.
Good luck!

Well I was just going to look at the credits and see if any of the staff from Metal Slug worked on it. I know a lot of people "said" that the original team did this game, but that sentence is thrown around everytime someone plays a game that plays like another.
If it would be easier, I can give you the credit list of Metal Slug 1 (it is not long, like 10 names) and you could just print it out and look to see if any names match up.

I recently encoutered Sports Shooting USA at an arcade.
Did some quick searching, found out it was for the Atomiswave.
I'm interested in owning this game, but not interesed in the 3K plus price tags I have found for full console setups. I guess what I would like to know is, is there a way to connect the Atomiswave to my HDTV and use the guns? Been trying to sift through all the info, but there is sooo much to go through. Any info would be appreciated.
P.S.
I'm interested in the option of having other games to be able to play. I see all kinds of mentions of "Supergun"'s Just why are they called that? they don't have anything to do with a gun. I see in this thread that the AW can be connected directly to some computer monitors, but will the guns work properly on say a 16x9 screen, or must it be a 4x3 image?
Thanks,
MagnAxiom
Amano Jacu
07-08-2005, 06:00 AM
We have been discussing in the past why "supergun" are called like that, but anyway it's just a label.
If you want to play the AW without a cab you need a supergun. It is quite likely that you'll be able to use the guns without a problem, but I can't be sure as I've never tried it myself. About the HDTV, if it has a VGA-like input video connector compatible with 640x480 31 khz video, it is quite likely that it will work. If not, you'll need a RGB->NTSC convertor to play the AW in 15 khz video through s-video for example.
The AW games are 4:3, but they'll work in a 16:9 screen by using any of the available options on the TV: bars, stretch, zoom, etc.

I can't take it anymore. I'm going to get an AW. I have 3 cabs and I can't decide how to do it though (well, actually one is on it's way here from CA.). This is what I had in mind before I fell in love with AW.
Neo19 with a 4 slot MVS board in it:
http://www.loopyeddie.com/images/collection/tour3.jpg
Neo29 with a 4 slot MVS board in it (it is hard to play 2 player fighting on the 19 dues to it's tiny control panel):
http://www.loopyeddie.com/images/collection/tour5.jpg
Super Neo29 with a Sega Saturn in it (I already have it running in my Neo29, but planned on putting it in this one and adding 4 more buttons for each player. , I decided to do this because of the vast amount of Saturn Shmups):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v303/gemen4snk/neogeo/candy/DSCN4091.jpg
I can't get another cab, because my fianncé (sp?) will kill me, so I'm going to have to change my plan. I think I've decided to nix the Saturn in a cab. I like it, and it works really well, but I can always play it on my TV. So, I'll have these 3 cabs, two running a 4 slot MVS, and one running AW (I'll add a 5th button). I'm pretty sure I want the Neo19 to stay MVS, but which of the 2 29's should the AW go in? Both have plenty of space for a 5th button. Anyone interested in buying my Saturn Cab Motherboard (Just uses a standard Saturn, an audio amp, control converters, and hacked SCART video cord all fed to a JAMMA fingerboard. All mounted together and can work in any JAMMA/MVS cab)?
Oh, and if I add the 5th button, how should the layout be? I've never played AW.

I'll add my name to the list :)

No, you can use the same board, but you'll need the driving controls and I/O.
@Kenny: you sacrificed the (useless) serial modem port for RGB out? What about the stereo sound connector?

Amano,
Yes, I wanted the unit to have true RGB/S out incase it was ever needed to be hooked up to another encoder/monitor. Since I doubt we'll ever use the modem (nor did I want to mount another connector on the system's shell), I simply killed off (not permenantly) the modem's functionality.
The CN3 connector was left intact.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself right, I meant the "round thingy" between CN3 and the sound volume knob. What's that?
About the RGB out, I've always wondered if the VGA port outputs a usable low-res RGB when the AW is set in low-res mode. If I had a VGA->Scart cable I would try it but I can't find it in any shop, I should build one myself.

That's actually a Power LED :) I wanted a power on indicator on the front panel. I wish I could have mounted it better, but preferred it on the metal shell rather than the red plastic case.
Oh well, if the VGA port does output a compatible RGB signal, than I have two interfaces!
Let me know if you ever find out.

I used a different solution:

I recently got an official US Sammy 25" dedicated cabinet with KOF Neowave from an online arcade distributer. I also picked up Guilty Gear Isuka. The Atomiswave system rocks!

That's an odd one. I have 3 RGB monitors that can accept both 15 khz and 30 khz. On 2 of them, the signal is unuseable. I would either get a really shaky picture, or a double image. However, on my Mitsubishi XC3315, I could use it perfectly fine. While the 31 khz was slightly cleaner, the 15 khz wasn't bad. It was hard to tell the difference.

That's a big help from him. Transporting that stuff is half the battle. As for me, before I even consider it, I gotta move a cab or two somewhere else to make room for it. A friend of mine that is holding an astro city and neo candy 29" for me is moving so I gotta take'm back to my pad and figure out where to put them.
White blood, hmmm now I can't even remember if mine has that too. I don't think it does or I would have noticed and made a fuss about it myself.

Very Nice! This is the same cabinet I'll have next week :) I'll have with it: Rumble Fish, KOF Neowave, NGC (already have :) ), Guilty Gear 1.5 (thanks to BIG) and Guilty Gear Isuka. Mine cost me $3,043.00 AUD with Rumble Fish Kit, Neo MVS 1 slot Mobo and Metal Slug 2 MVS. I'll also have a second Atomiswave Mobo coming with the KOF Neowave. I'll be get the new Samuri Spirits next and then Metal Slug 6 when it comes out.

There's no Blood switch like there is with Isuka and I've tried every Language and Region combination with GGX1.5 - it's always white.
Anyone confirm?

My cab came with KOF Japanese Move stickers,etc.. on it, which is good as I got the KOF Neowave as a loose cart. I bought NGBC new and it came with 3 sets of move stickers and a Marquee.

I have an Atomiswave motherboard along with KOF XI which just arrived this afternoon. :) Going to pick me up another Atomiswave mobo though. Great system... now all I need is one of those sexy Atomiswave sitdown cabinets that BIG and 360heelflip have.
Just how much better do Sammy's SNK games look at 31k? As I always see Neowave and NGBC running here on the older model Astro's or VS City at only 15k.

New consolised Atomiswave owner here.
I got me Demolish Fist, Dolphin Blue and KOF Neowave carts so far.
I have modded a pair of official DC sticks with red Sanwa parts and had galvanised steel faceplates cut, with 5 button holes to replicate the JPN cab CP layout. The VMS square hole and Dreamcast logos are no longer visible. I'm thinking of having the Atomiswave logo engraved into them like this http://www.snkplaymore.jp/official/kof-xi/img/logo_atomiswave.gif
Got a 4-player I/O cart on the way, which I'll mod to accept another pair of modded DC sticks for some 4-player Isuka action.
I'm very pleased with my purchase and will post pics once I have it all finished.

They actually look WORSE at 31kHz due to the low-res sprites they're using. :(

Actually, I disagree. I hooked up my AW via 31khz to my new 50" Plasma (RGB/VGA port); it was stunning. I was running KOF NeoWave.
I had also tested the unit using a JROK & R2N encdoer. The JROK looked great, but the R2N wasn't compatible with the AtomisWave. I'd HIGHLY recommend using a hi-res monitor for this system.

You really think so? I've tried out the same game today on my 19" VGA monitor, and while the backgrounds looked very sharp, the sprites were just horribly pixelated. Ah well, to each his own ...

Probably due to the size of our screens. Just about any image looks "sharper" on smaller sets.
With my Plas, the image is awesome. I actually just bought another AW mobo (from RingoC) that will be consolized but lacking any type of encoder. There's no need for it :)

Well, in hi-res in my 17'' LCD VGA screen Newoave looks like shit due to the extreme pixelation of the sprites. The same happened with KOV.
