Should I buy a DS or is it just too stuipd at the moment? I loved Mario 64, but that's the only game I'd buy on this. Well, that and the minish cap, I guess (GBA game). I already have a GBA, should I get this or wait? Looking for opinions from those that have one and Mario. Thanks...

Pros-

Bigger d-pad, GBA games look unbelievable on a truly backlit screen.

Cons-

The library kinda sucks, not much to play.

Unknown-

There probably will be some genuine gems to play on it. How long will it take?

If it won't break your wallet, it might be worth. Just be patient for the new stuff.

I have a DS and Super Mario 64 DS and love it. Considering the current game selection, I'm sure one could live without it, but of course that may change in the near future.

So two real answers and two fake ones. What does GBA do with the second screen when you play those old games? Also, is Mario 64 (or whatever) as good as it was on N64, or is it... less... because of the lack of D-pad? Thanks again!

It's just not in use (i.e. black). You can set it to use the top or bottom screen, but I would recommend using the top, as it seems to be of a higher quality than the bottom one.

Honestly, I've never really played the original Super Mario 64 much. I can still tell you though, this game was obviously designed with an analog controller in mind. Using the d-pad is certainly adequate, but it can take a little getting used to. There's also a mode where you used the touch screen like an analog stick, but I don't really like it a whole lot.

Edit: Also, take into account that the DS can't play original GB or GBC games, if you plan on selling your SP.

The second screen goes blank when playing a GBA game.
I found Mario 64-DS pretty weak, the control system was convoluted (tap twice to run in a direction), not to mention kinda ugly with no anti-aliasing.

Like I said, if you're buying it to enjoy GBA games in a better way, and don't mind waiting for some good releases, you'll be alright. Otherwise, wait a while.

Not to derail, but how much difference is there between the quility of the screens? The reason I ask, is because the DS Castlevania game will be played on the lower quality bottom screen (so you can draw the seals). Is it a very noticable difference?

Honestly I don't find either of the new handhelds to be that attractive at the moment. The PSP has all sorts of design flaws, and the DS just hasn't really proven itself yet. The only way I'd get a PSP would be if I didn't have a GBA yet.

If you've already got a GBA, I'd wait and see what happens.

Spike, if you want to play GBA games and Mario 64, then yes.

As for the unit itself, I'd wait... nothing on it right now.

I own one and havent turned it on in a while.

Still waiting...

Short answer yes, long answer no.

I am disapointed in the fact that Teh Dinkins screwed up on this one :
Yes is longer than no, therefore "Yes" is the long answer and "No" should be the short one.

In a word : "Yes"

It's not that noticable, but on a solid white screen you can see that it's a touch screen. I don't really know how to explain it, it's kinda like it's washed out, but not really...

To tell you the truth I don't like Mario 64 DS that much, I just keep dying and it's not fun.

On the other hand WarioWare touched is possibly the best handheld experience that I've ever had.

Well, I can't say I have any real evidence for this, it's just something I noticed. The top one just seems to be clearer. With the bottom one, it's almost like there's very slight rainbowing sort of effect. I assume it's just a slightly cheaper LCD screen. It's kind of hard to describe, but it's really not a huge difference.

The bottom screen is at a different temp setting from the top. The top screen looks brighter while the touch screen has a slighty warmer hue to it. You cant really notice it much in DS games. But with GBA games its a bit more noticeable. I actually like playing GBA games on the bottom screen cause the top screen sorta washes out the colors.

Hold out awhile. Let the DS/PSP begin and die abit and then make a decision. I got a DS for my bro for X-mas, but the only quality is Mario 64. It has potential, it just doesn't use that potential yet.

HAH! No.

If you want to play Mario 64, play Mario 64. If you want to enjoy Minnish Cap, play it on a GBA Player.

The DS has very little out now and very little coming out IMO. Not that PSP is any better, just I don't see much of a reason to own either one unless you're really going to be travelling with it a lot.
