Hey,

I was wondering why would you actually bit $700 dollar for Metal Slug 1 while you can get Metal Slug 3 for $400 or some... I think it just must be a collectors thing

Yeah, it must be a collector's thing. MS1 is by far the shortest and least refined in the MS series. It's still a great game, but not worth anywhere near $700. I have it on CD, got for around $60, and I think I easily got my money's worth.

I got it for $49 when it first came out.
What a bargain!

And $700 is actually "cheap" for MS1. Shawn just sold a Jap MS1 for $1,100.

The Auction is not over yet - could go to $1000 - That would by my down payment for a boat or my house payment. Guess I'm not a "big tymer".

I don't think it depends on whether you are a "BIG TYMER" or not. It depends on what goals you set out for your collection. If somebody only collects US carts and they like Metal Slug, they will have to realize that the uncommonality of the game coupled with the demand causes inflated prices. The going rate for Metal Slug has recently soared to over $1K for the US version. It has nothing to do with what game is better or whether it's available on other formats. The issue at hand is collecting US original home cartridges, and in this regard, you will have to spend a large sum of money for this particular cart. If someone has a problem spending that money, then they either need to redefine their collecting goals, get out of the hobby, or sit by and hope that demand will eventually [subside]*. If you are a gamer, then this argument is not even for you, so don't bother replying.

Sincerely,

Kale

I think the reason for people bought Metal Slug homecart for that price must be :
1)He is damn rich so he didn't care for that amount of money or
2)He is so stupid!!!

Metal Slug 3 is far more beautiful compare to Metal Slug. Like you people usually said "this cart is rare, super rare, extra rare, ultra rare etc" making the price gone crazy.

But I guess the man who bought this game will said (after playing an hour) : "Damn, I spend $1000 just for playing a game like this!! Man I should put them quickly on Ebay again and must add a word "ultra rare" so I could get my money back". This was happen again and again.

Exactly, Metal Slug 3 will have a longer lasting time and has better graphics for a cheaper price, and we probably see this metal slug 1 back again

Hi Neo Geo Fans,
Most people I know are into playing NEO GEO as well as collecting NEO GEO. Metal Slug 1 is the #1 of a very popular series, therefore, the value of a #1 will always be more expensive than a MS3. If I have the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, I would glady pay $1000 or more.

Its a crazed collectors thing. Most people have pretty great memories of metal slug when it came out in the arcades, but come on you can get the arcade origional for US$50-100. The US$700-1000's ive seen are pretty crazy. And how can the origional metal slug be worth almost twice as much as Metal Slug 3, which is phenomenal!!Go figure

I personally own MSX and MS3, but if I had to choose between those two or a copy of MS1 I'd go for the latter. Sure, the graphics are better on number 3 and it's a longer game and all. But I like the feeling of Metal Slug 1 the best. It just feels better, I can't explain it. If you'd have to put it in $$$ and 3 is worth about $400 then I'd rather pay $800 for MS1 (Jap).

You don't have to be a colector to pay those amounts of money; it just depends on how much money you are willing to pay for a game, that just so happens to be extremely rare.
By the way; If you can get me MS1 (Jap) for $700 then sign me up for one!Seriously!

Think when it's like 2010 or something and some new people are discovering the Neo Geo!
And what they will pay for Slug 1 then!!

I like the slug 1 most of all the series. Most cause the military theme. The Slug 2,X and Slug 3 are more funny and with a funny theme. Sure they are exstreamly fun to play aswell!!

But to pay for the original Slug 1 like $39 599:- in 2010 is little bit out of line here.. Then it would ONLY be the collectors thing. I also think that the MVS carts are going to gain some value in future too.
