I was thinking about picking this up with an Atomiswave from the Neostore, and was wondering if it was any good or not? From the videos I've been watching in months past, it looks pretty fun. (Just Defending = :drool_2: ) I know Southtownkid's been on a holy war condemning it as a inferior 2002, which I can't really blame him as 2002 is a great game, and if it's just more of the same, than I don't really feel the need to drop $850 on it. I'd just like to hear a few thoughts on it is all.

Thanks,

Brett.

I played it a little at the arcade. Has no choice really because all the other games had broken sticks. I really liked the backgrounds, they don't look 3D .. they're just high quality 2D .. although some characters may look out of place, I think it's a pretty game, it's the first time I notice the BGs in a serious match.

Character selection is great I think, almost in par with 98, that's if you include the extra characters.

The fact that you can choose from three mods adds alot of replay value to it, although it can be used really cheap. For instance, in max2 mode you can't roll which makes some moves almost impossible to dodge. For instance use ralf and do his DM .. when opponent gets knocked out do the galactica phantom and its guaranteed to hit because they cant roll away and there is no time to jump.

All the cheap tactics are there. Has some very easy heavy damage combos. Andy is very powerful and alot of people abuse him. With a couple of buttons you can do a 70% damage combo.

Aside from all the cheapness I think this game has alot of replay value.

It is a better game than 2k2 but it's not a new game or anything.

I have no problem dropping my 50yen coins in at the arcade to play it but if I had to buy an Atomiswave kit to play it I would pass.

You'll probably be much happier if you stick with 2k2 for now and buy NW when the price drops a lot. Unless you've got some hardcore competition going on you probably won't be able to appreciate the differences.

Man, how is it better than '02? Heat mode? Roster? Hell, no.

But having said all that I've said about it, I might rather play Neowave than '99. Or maybe not. I'd have to think about it. Holy war, huh? Hmmm... Yeah, maybe. The streets will run red with the blood of the non-believers.

I just got my copy today, and I really like it so far. I agree that it's not quite as good as KoF '02, but it's close, and '02 is my favorite KoF, so close to '02 = very good (at least for my tastes). I certainly agree that several characters seem abuseable, but none of my gamer friends know the series well enough to take advantage, so it shouldn't hurt our competitions.

Makes me salivate at the mere thought of NGBC, that's for sure.

It's mostly a more balanced game than 02. When you are playing competitively in an arcade that makes all the difference in the world.
I say it's better for the same reason that VF4: final tuned is a better game than VF4: Evo.
Heat mode is nothing special I'll agree. Being able to select from the 3 modes is cool. I like GB mode a lot.

The poster above me said the same thing: It's more balanced.

Although there are a lot of Choi users around here and I can't stand that little bastard... that's not to say that he's unbalanced, it's just that I've always been a sucker for his quick, jerky movements and his cx.C.

Never use it really, but it's a nice option, as are the various gameplay modes (although I personally stick to GB myself.)

Obviously, a very subjective preference, I love the NW cast, since it's a lot like '98 with a few of my newer favorite faces thrown into the game.

I think if you want to compare them, NW and '02 compliment each other quite nicely.

Both games were received quite well around here and with my friends, so we've put a good chunk of time into each; although, since '02 can be had pretty cheaply in MVS form, I've spent more time with that, but to say that I'm eager for a NW port is a huge understatement, since I'd love to spend more time than I have with it.

I've played NeoWave and I sort of liked it, but really it's just my personal bias. To tell you the truth, I think it's just a little better than '99 which I deem the most stupid and worthless(well the backgrounds were good and maybe the music) KOF game.
I wouldn't recommend you to buy NeoWave though, just play it at the arcade.
Some pros about Neowave:
Has Takuma.(w00t!)
Has Geese.(w00t!)
Has Saisyu(not so exciting)
Some cons:
Doesn't have Heidern(Oyaji teams was the best :annoyed: )
Just about everything else...it's not traditional KOF like...the Just defending is damn annoying...

Thanks for the input everyone! I've been watching some Neowave videos I got off of KOFCyberfanatics, and it looks fun and all, but all you see is Geese and Choi. Not to mention the alternate colors look horrible. Now that opinion is only based off a few horrible ones I've seen, (Orochi Yashiro, Choi, Jhun, Geese) but wow, they look worse than the people who make custom colors on Xbox Live and don't know how to shade.

Those aren't alternate colors, they are custom colors that people make and save on their neowave card.

Choi is still top. Saisyu is supposed to be in god tier as well. Geese is strong but the reason you see so much of him in the cyberfan vids is because that was right after people started playing as him so he was a popular character.

I see a larger variety of characters being played in neo wave than in 02.

The game may be good, but I don't like the art... -_-

Yeah. Have you seen the full Vanessa pic? It looks like she's stoned out of her mind. She must be in the tournament trying to get enough money for a giant crack rock or something.

Please Note: I know that Neowave is not an official tournament.
