This is one project I'm working on for those who want to know which video quality is the best.

I have the following units for a head-on/side-to side comparison

1. Neo-Geo AES with the X-Neo-1 (16xxxx)

2. Super Neo Aes with internal S-vid mod (9xxxx) Mod done by Jkurtz.

3. "Elite" Neo Aes with the NeoBitz board (item would still come-in next week or so from JGN) Mod work by JKurtz.

4. Playstation2 and X-box with Component video running ports to be compared to the originals just for the heck of it.

Games:

1. SVC Chaos AES
2. SSIV AES
3. SVC Chaos Ps2/X-box

TV:

42 inch Samsung Plasma HDTV
25 inch Sony Wega with Component inputs .CRT based and non-HDTV

Test would show a comparison between:

1. X-neo S-vid vs Internal mod S-vid vs NeoBitz S-video
2. S-video quality of all 3 units vs the Component Mod
3. NeoBitz component mod vs the "ports" running in component video

Help is needed on how to get the best screen shot/s to be posted here for an accurate comparison.

Thanks and many Thanks.

I think this is a great idea, and would love to see the results. As for capturing the video, I think that it'd be ok to just take digital pictures of the screen as long as you can find a way to keep the camera stable. Maybe you could mount the camera on a tripod or something, I'm not sure, but you'd really have to be careful to make sure that everything stays the same during the entire process. Simply snapping pics of the screen would be almost useless, as you'll pic up different glare at slightly different angles, etc.

Anyway, just try to be very consistent when taking the pics, that's all I'm trying to say. Good luck with it, and be sure to show us the results as soon as you're done!

That's the BIG problem and you nailed it very well. I may have to ask photo experts out there regarding lighting conditions and the best digi cam to use. Right now photos yeild "questionable" results.

I WANT TO DO THIS RIGHT SO I'L NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET :help:

I find the best picture ive seen for Neo Geo games is through my Front Loader CD system and RGB. The picture is crystal clear, far and away the best RGB of all my systems.

Next up, and to be honest pretty much on par with the Neo CD is the PS2. This machine has an awesome RGB picture, far outclasses the XBOX. King of Fighter 2000/2001 package I picked up in in GAME the other day looks almost too clear in 60hz

Next, my unmodded AES Japanese System SN-154877. I'm running this through a standard RGB cable, and it looks awesome. I recently compared this machine with a friends low serial AES and it actually has a better picture overal...which pissed him off big style.

Lastly is the XBOX. RGB through the machine is at best "muddy" but it looks like that is the general view of this XBOX's RGB.

Im looking forward to seeing your more "controlled" results though.

Just waiting for the "Elite" Neo to arrive from JGN but I started testing some games already. SVC Chaos for the Neo( X-Neo, Internal S-video mod) and the Ps2 version running in component video.

Initial observations:

1. X-neo is darker and colors appear to be soft on the eyes.
2. Internal Mod is vibrant and clear.
3. Ps2 version looks great with the component video as colors and backgounds are more defined.

Btw, I'm having problems with the screen shots any advice on lighting and background conditions?

To really get consistent screen shots, you're going to need to mount the camera on a tripod and you're going to have to be VERY careful not to move it. I'd say that it's probably best to make the room as dark as possible so as not to introduce any glare through reflections, etc.

Also, I'd get the camera close enough to the screen so that only the screen is visible.
