After playing In the Hunt a coupla months back, I realized near immediately that the artwork is exactly alike Metal Slug. I then did some research and found out that Nazca did the art for the Metal Slug games, and perhaps even developed the first one?

Any information on these talented people, and what connection they have with Kokopeili (or however you spell it)?

Never knew that. I always thought SNK bought out Nazca.

Also, Don't Irem still make games? I thought they recently(last couple of years) released stuff like R-Type Final & Disaster Report?

Yep, it was indeed Irem that developed R-Type Final, although it was published by Eidos over here in North America..just last year, actually, so pretty recent.
Irem doesn't seem to do much these days, but every once in a while the odd game makes its way out.

no,wait

irem made games like undercover cops, gunforce or in the hunt back in 1992 / 93 / 94 or so

they are very very similar to slug 1 in style, you should check them out if you're arsed enough :)

i think a few people left irem and made slug 1 and btg under the name of nazca

then snk bought nazca, kind of what they did with adk

or so i like to think

it's not so uncommon for people to leave a company to gain artistic freedom or stuff like that

konami - treasure,for example

it's also a known fact that ex irem people made pulstar ( considering it's neo r-type and all )

As far as I remember, In The Hunt has the Irem name on it? I noticed the Metal Slug like art too. In fact, that's why I bought the Saturn port.

The Nazca ~ Irem thing comes like a shock to me, though. So Metal Slug is actually an Irem game?? And why the other name? Why not use Irem? And where does Aicom fit in?
I'm confused..

So basically developers left Irem to form Nazca who were then bought out by SNK.

I knew Irem did In the Hunt, Undercover Cops etc, but they were crap!!!

No, not all Irem games.

Vigilante, Mr Heli, Lengend of Hero Tonma & Disaster Report are among the best games I've ever played. Just those never really did anything for me, especially In the Hunt.

i absolutely loved in the hunt, got a cab with it for few weeks too in my garage (i really have great friends). The attention to details is phenomenal. On a PC screen you loose a bit of the magic (because computer screen doesn t blend pixels like an arcade monitor...) but in real it was "wow".
Irem verry seldom disapointed me anyway.
