phantom-1 - what does it look like installed?

Hi,

I am still deciding whether I will get a Phantom-1 or not. I have seen many pictures of it by itself which appears to be just a circuit board (no case). What does it look like plugged into a console with and without a game plugged in? Anyone got any photos of it?

The Phantom-1 slides into your AES system like a regular cart, and then you install an MVS cart on the Phantom 1 itself. As for the way it looks? Bulky... very much like the old Atari 2600 Adapter for the Atari 5200 back in the 80s. But despite the size and the obvious visual impairments, it's a great tool to have to get all of those games you want to play at a cheap price.

Looks weird to tell you the truth ( I don't have a picture now but I have played with some). But the look was not the most disturbing feeling I had, it was more about the fact that the whole stuff looks fragile installed.

so it works like a standard NES (asian to usa/european) cartridge adapter? isn't it wobbly without any casing? does it just convert the pins or is there some electronics onboard also? (it costs a lot more than an NES cart adapter)

I do not have one, but there was a thread a year or so ago where someone posted a picture of it. It looked like it stood about 2 feet tall out of the slot with a game in it.

The Phantom-1 looks much better and much sturdier if you make a home cart shell for it. Tiptonium used to have a tutorial on his site, and there should be some older threads, maybe in Tech Support about doing this. It's definitely worth doing if you decide to go the Phantom route.

I really like my Phantom, but I'd like it a lot less, if I hadn't sacrificed an AES shell, and cut it to fit around it. It looks like a mini (55% AES cart height).

The ugliest part is the butt ugly cheapo MVS cart.

Can you tell I'm an AES collector? :loco:

Its basically an exposed PCB, so there are electronics, bt where they get power from I have no idea. it is a bit smaller than the cart slot, which makes it look a little weird with the huge mvs cart on top.

I had one, but it was too fragile to me. Any kind of static shock or metal piece that touches it will kill it.

I got my phantom-1 today, it works fantastic, I've tried all my favourite games and they all work flawlessly. pitty about the lack of a shell though :( and it is a really tight fit (hurts my hands trying to pull it apart)

ok, which of the following would you chop up for a casing for your phantom-1?

Samurai Showdown
Samurai Spirits 2

which is worth more? I actually have both on MVS anyway, so chopping up the cheapest is probably best. Or should I look for an old secondhand AES cart elsewhere? (cause the 2 I have are near mint).

I always wonder why they didn't make it with a shell at the first place.

I agree. Without the shell, it is quite fiddley sometimes to put it into the Neo Geo slot.

Does anyone think it is a good idea for me and also worthwhile for someone else to swap my two near mint AES carts for a crappy AES doner cart and 2-3 MVS lose carts?

Neither.... I'd look towards World Heroes or Fatal Fury. Try to find one loose, lacking any manual or case.
