PSP delayed?
Web posted on 5/10/04 Analysts predict that Sony's handheld will be pushed back to November 2005. And that's just in America.
Industry pundits at Piper Jaffray & Co have released a report predicting that Sony's attempt at taking over the handheld gaming market is likely to be delayed by more than a year. And if America has to wait until November '05, then Europe'll probably be left hanging until early 2006.

Their predictions come from the fact that there are still rumours of some hardware problems plaguing the PSP - with battery management and overheating being the most important.

American Technology Research are slightly less gloomy, predicting a US launch in June '05. They base that on the fact that the games shown at the recent Tokyo Game Show were no more than 60% complete, and that the question mark over battery life is still hanging around like a bad smell. They didn't say that last part, we added it for emphasis.

But with Sony's planned Japanese release window coming up fast, you can reasonably expect they'll respond to these rumours fairly quickly.

 I believe it too.

It's a little insubstantial. With three months of rumors on delays, isn't this one justt a drop in the bucket?

It's only two months away, a delay at this point would be unlikely.

I find it more likely there simply won't be units at launch.

But they aint put a foot down with an official launch date imo....but who knows, seems like the source of this "rumor" is strong to the statement, but who fucking knows the truth.

Did you read that before you posted? Its old, before the jap release. Given the fact that the jap release went ahead as planned there is no substance here. My PSP does not overheat either ;-)

That article is verry old, far older than when sony announced in asia game show that the psp will be released worldwide (asia, usa and suposedly europe) in march.

Can sony be trusted on that ? for this hardware i guess so. Games "at 60 percents complete" on tokyo game show were mostly finished (with more or less polish depending on cases) in due time in december for japan. so that s not a good push back reason. hardware shortage... possible, since Sharp screens and the Wifi module are made in china and so quite far from sony manufacturing plants (you pass in front some of them when you take the shinkansen from tokyo to nagoya iirc but dunno if these are psp/pstwo ones).

let s hope sony makes sharp improve its QA on the PSP screens... the "fullbrightness" pixel i have is annoying in metal gear (dark game). I ll give this system to my sister when getting the Granturismo white one (less prone to fingerprints).

My bad....yes it is old, they placed it on the main page, so I thought it was new.

Either way I dont think the US or UK with me seeing these units untill well after march, I see it being a 2 month delay at least.

I say meh.. I'm not hyped about this anymore. It was cool when I saw the first 100 screenshots of ridge racer, but not after the 2nd 100. Also the US launch lineup just makes me wanna cry, wtf are they thinking? Nobody wants to fucking play NBA/NFL Street on a handheld... at least I hope not. The only game besides RR that I'd even be intrested in is Mercury, but that would probably only last 30mins and it would get too repetitive.

From what i've seen, all the PSP is good for is a portable porn player.

PS: Samsung is supposed to be making the new screens.

Get a PocketPC there bro. They play video better than any stinkin game machine. You can throw 2 DVD's on a 1G memory card easy.
