Any recommendations for LD/LP storage units?

I have I think 22 boxes of varying widths (yes, mostly just using the shipping boxes actually) that store my couple hundred titles and it is more than boring whenever I want a specific one, displacing objects to then begin sifting through boxes, pulling them out one after another, hoping to find that particular one.

Now I heard plastic milk crates fit them perfectly (12"x12"). I would prefer something that looks less out of place and quite frankly, less ugly.

The only storage units I ever saw despite being very nice were $300++ minimum -minimum as they were designed so that more units/shelves could be added. I would probably spend $600 on that stuff now for the amount I have. So price sort of matters.

Something close to the ground would be nice too, I don't really need or want an 8' bookshelf, just something small & compact that will do the job of keeping them upright and safe.

I know I could probably go buy some lumber and make one myself though I am too damn lazy.

So, any suggestions/recommendations from collectors here? Thanks for reading this far too.

My dad uses a set of shelves he built to store LPs n' such. But considering it's mid-January--why not check out a few of the Christmas clearances for plastic storage bins? You can probably find quite a few in the correct dimensions. And be able to stack them and free up floor space at that.

If finding a particular one is a problem still, why not put them in Alpha-numeric order while re-arranging them, then mark a few boxes like, "1-10, A-G, H-K, L-M, etc."

Or do you want something where the spines of your media are a little more accessable?

Almost anything would be better than what I have. Ideally I would like something shelf-like I guess, bins suggest stacking after hiding the stuff inside which at heart greatly reduces the current problem although does not completely eliminate it.

So far I have not found any bins the right size anyway. Given the delicate nature of the contents I would not want them flopping about whenever I move one of the bins, which I would have to if I am going to stack them, and filling the loose space with something like bubblewrap or foam chips is out. I found a long time ago that protective such materials only fall over where you don't want them to once some of the media has been removed which creates more headache when returning the LP/LD into "storage," and in the case of bubblewrap, the corners too frequently catch on it and either tear it or force it to be removed & re-inserted every time. Phooey I say.

Got any make/model numbers for the ones you say actually fit perfectly? As I said I have yet to find any such ones up here and if cheap enough I would consider it certainly for the time being at least.

I would have bought some huge shelf off my father's friend and ditched one of my dressing tables except the thing would not fit in my room with the window sill jutting out as it does. :annoyed:

Thanks for the suggestion by the way :)

I'm not sure about any model numbers. Usually when I have a storage need I end up doing footwork to track down something that can work.

I figured that since most plastic bins were being cleared out, you could find them at minimal expence.

I'm not familiar with any type of discount store that would carry furniture outside the US. But if you can find a store like a Big Lots, or Odd Lots (same store, different name depending on the area), you could probably find a cheap set of pre-fab, ready-to-assemble shelves if that's what you really want.

I used to store my LDs in wine cases - The wooden cases of 6 bottles where exactly the same height as a LD. If I remember correctly I could store about 20 LDs per case.

I think I know the sort you mean and never, ever see them around here... hm, sounds like a fun idea though I could see them taking up a lot more floor space than necessary at 20/case. Still a novel idea, thanks. I'm going to ask about that anyway.

Kagerou: message sent.
