I currently have dsl, the contract is over the end of this month, and because of a many consistent problems (service goes out when in bad weather, sometimes for no reason, slow/inconsistent speeds, etc) I'm switching over to comcast cable internet.

Well I got the install kit and all that, hooked everything up, get all green lights on the modem, registered the modem with comcast, and using the software they gave me to register, it won't connect. So I call them Wednesday, dude helps me set up a proxy so I can access their site and register my account. Midway through he tells me he just found out the servers for registering new accounts are down for the whole country. woot! The next day I get home from work, try again, still don't work. Call em again, shit is down again (apparently it was working at some point) Tried once before work this morning, still nothing.

I got no luck with this internet crap. At least their tech support people seem to be smarter than sbc's.

That's the worst choice you could've ever made.

Comcast cable internet is FUCKING AWFUL.

Be prepared for random resets daily...

Can't be nearly as bad as SBC.

In addition to random resets daily, no service when it rains or snows. No service for what seems like no reason at all. Slow ass speeds half the time. And tech support that I can't understand most of the time. Total shit.

Do you guys have a company called Insight over in Chicago? That's who I am with and I haven't had any problems. I very rarely have a bad connection, unless there are a lot of people online.

While they do so uncompariably SUCK compared to the @home service we used to have around here (120kb/sec uploads W00T!), I don't see that kind of problem at home at all.

Could be your modem or router is dying slowly.

Actually I have SBC DSL and I think is perfect, the tech support is also perfect i rarely have a problem tough. I've heard comcast is the fastest one, haven't try it yet. SBC DSL is real fast or it might be because I have alot of upgradeds in my computer.

My parents have comcast up in Boston and I have it in my house in King of Prussia, right outside of Philly, and I have NEVER had any problems. Honestly, 0 problems. Its just my magic touch :p

Nope, already bought another modem.

I've had a NIGHTMARE of a time with comcast since day 1 (Nov 2000). I spent HOURS nightly for 3 months to get my service *just* running.

It's been a nightmare the whole time, but I can't get DSL (second phone line) and my company still won't pay for the T1 circuit to my house like *they promised*

Comcast sucks my balls.

after @home switched to comcastHSI i havent had any problems with them (though the transition wasn't all that smooth)

while @home may have been faster, it was constantly down.

i havent had a problem in quite a while with comcast lately.

the down speed is so much faster than verizon dsl, but the up is about 10kbps slower. 32kbps is shit, but i think theyre upgrading. i think with verizon youre getting 70kbps now.

Well in Tucson we have Cox cable for the city (where I live) and Comcast for the outskirts and rural areas. My brother has Comcast and he hasnt had a problem at all here. It may just vary from node to node.

I never have any troubles. I get consistent 350-550 Kb downloads

decently fast uploads. 30-75kbs

and my modem hasn't been down in 2 years (when they were upgrading our cable service for the entire area).

Never will I use DSL. Comcast IMO is the best you can have (based on experience)

oh yeah.. and I don't install their CD they give. Its full of junk. I was pretty ticked when the guy installed it on my computer and I had to reformat.

You don't need to install that for cable modems. My computer recognized the connection instantly and it still does.

I have never had to edit any settings at all.

Well I had to register the modem with them (which I did) And I still have to complete the registration to get the service working. That's the problem, the servers for that always seem to be down.
