Wow, NIN.com says that it's in two styles. One is a cd and one is a dvd? It says the songs are redone in 5.1? Is this an audio DVD or does it have videos? I don't get it, but I want it. DS in 5.1? Oh hell yes!

The entire album was remixed in both 5.1 surround and super audio CD (SACD). I haven't had a chance to listen to it on my surround sound system yet, but the SACD mix is amazing. It sounds so vibrant and full. I can hear things that I couldn't hear on the original mix (check out Ruiner, I do not want this, Reptile and Hurt) . I've spent a lot of time with The Downward Spiral and this mix gives it a whole new life.

The 2nd disc is a collection of B sides, Soundtrack songs, rarities and demos, the best of which are the demos for Ruiner, Reptile and Heresy.

I picked it up for about $33 at FYE and its the best $33 I've spent in months.

There is a second edition of TDS (other than the one I'm ranting about) thats mixed in DVD audio. I picked up the double disc version because it offered both the 5.1 mix and SACD mix as well as the bonus disc.

Thank you very much for the tip. I'll have to buy this tomorrow.

I kept telling myself "After I buy RE4, I'm not wasting money on anything else." Then I come in here and read that one of my favorite albums of all time has been rereleased with all this extra stuff, and that plan is ruined. Thanks a lot guys.

It's hands down my favorite album ever made. Then again, NIN is my favorite band.

Anyhow, I guess I won't be able to play this in 5.1 unless I have a Sony player?? Is this right, or is my friend retarded? I have to hear this in 5.1!

5.1 is 5.1 man, it doesn't really matter what brand your system is (at least I think not).

Oh, my stuipd friend said since it was a "super CD" it was "sony technology" and had to be played on Sony players, since only they could read super CDs....or some shit. I'm glad he's wrong.

I'm listening to Ruiner in surround right now, fucking amazing. It's like having your skull stuck in the middle of the Downward Spiral sessions, you're totally engulfed in the music.

So, I picked this up today. It's an audio DVD, so it played just fine in my DVD player. My freind's and idiot.

WHAT A MIX. Best album ever. I can't get enough of just how fine the quality of this is! The songs are all, more or less, the same but in 5.1. However, there are changes to some of them.... but unless you're a huge NIN fan (like me) you wouldn't really notice. I love the little changes and extra SFX. What a great disk, and what a way to show off your sound system.

Trent Reznor is a god.

Thanks for letting me know, I can't believe this passed me by.

BTW the DTS "And All that could have been" tour DVD is godly.

Yeah, it ain't bad. I went to that concert (well, in Madison). It's great to watch the DVD of what you saw in real life. I say the DS 5.1 mix is better, however. Then again, I'm biased.

I was in High School in the Middle of nowhere when that tour took place.... I wish I could have seen one of those shows...

But atleast I have the DVD... You know Trent Rezor mastered it on his Mac? Or so i've been told.

Did you pick up the single disc edition or the double disc edition?

Single is all I saw at Media play. Knowing me, when I see the double I'll get that too. Has Burn on there and some rough cuts of some DS songs, I think? What else? That DVD of DS in 5.1 is just the best thing I've ever heard in my life. The track "Downward Spiral" has some of the most mind blowing sound I've ever heard. The whole disk is great, but the end of that song just floored me when it went from mostly front to muffled back with trent screaming in the front center. Wow!

I finally got a chance to buy this yesterday. Pretty cool stuff. It's worth picking up even if you have the original.

I haven't had a chance to watch the DVD yet, but I will tonight.

This is officially my favorite album ever made now. Thanks to the 5.1 it pushes back my other favorites that were looking to take over TDS as my new fav. The Wall, Sgt Pepper's, The Chronic.... move over, Downward Spiral is here to stay. :buttrock:
