I was never a big KOF fan but enjoyed '02 a lot. Is this worth it? It's a tempting pricepoint.

even though i'm not a big fan of the game compared to some other years, i'd say yes.

kof2001 had one of the most open combo systems in any kof to date. sure a lot of it is a bit excessive (watch persona's 20min vid to see what i mean) but it can also be quite fun to explore the system on your own. if you like that sort of thing in fighters, kof2001 can keep you busy for quite a while.

the graphics and sound are subpar compared to the glory days of kof, but it's still a nice game to add to your collection overall.

If you can buy it you should. I'd definately recomend games from 94-98 over it, but if you have those games, or like the new ones 135 is a good deal!

2k1 is a good game you can sit down with an FAQ and just go through combos or cool tricks. Heidern is in it which is nice, and you get the really weird Nest team.

If you plan on much 2P gameplay, then yes KOF '01 is worth it at that price.

But then again, I bought it for $125 at NCSX on sale last year, and I sold it. Music, while gruuvy at times, has just poor fidelity. I crave fine animation in a fighter, and KOF with its huge list of characters... to many I think, it is really lacking in the animation department. But then again, I prefer fewer char's to get good at while enjoying the more fluid animation a ROM cart can offer, ie: MOTW, LB1,2, etc.

it's much more enjoyable than 2k2 imo. it offers more things to learn (more enjoyable characters, more combos .... etc).

buy it.

A good game for sure and probably worth it, but there are alot of other KoF games I would get first:

2000, 03, 99, 02, 98

in that order. That is just me though. ;) That is not to say that I don't like 01, but it is just lacking in some ways IMO (presentation mainly).

I would buy it, but the PS2 port is sooooo close (perfect?), and I already own 98 and 02 on AES. I don't feel the need to plunk the AES cash down on every KOF. Get the best ones for AES,a nd ports for the rest, when ports are available.

That's my 0.02. I've only played the port of 01 on PS2, and haven't played it on AES. I'v eplayed 98 and 02 a lot though, and love both. From what I've read, I may not *need* any more for AES.

It's in my top 5 KoF's, and I bought it for Home system back in the $185 days, so hell yeah I pay that for it. HUGE roster, major speed change, and much different engine make it a good change up game for the series.

The only kof I don't consider a KOF. mainly the gameplay, although some people say it's very combo friendly. It's also abusable. And there are hardly any disadvantages for those characters that are top tier (don't know if that's the correct term).

Nevertheless, different opinion for different people.

I love it. It's completely unique among the series and has a great roster. Like Gaira said, check out some videos to see what '01 is like if you haven't played it.

No, it's not worth $100. Even KoF 95 kicks more asses.

Gameplay doesn't make it all. I like 2k2 but not 2k1 because the artwork and overall graphics sucks to death.

I love 2k1, and yes it's worth it, I'd prefer it over 2k2 any friggin' day of the friggin' week.

Oh, and 2k2 has issues with graphics and sound as well, don't tell me you guys like all those crap backs, the lame music and eye-bending chara palettes.

It's KOF, so it's enjoyable on some levels.

Though I don't like a lot of what they did to some of my favorite characters (ie. Kim). I prefer the 98/2k2 Kim a whole lot more.

On the whole, in the post 2000 KOF's 2k2 is my favorite, and after that I'd have to say 2k3 since I have more fun with it. 2k1 does have a lot combo wise, but for good old vs. play with my friends, 2k2 just outshines it.

you're asking that question on the wrong site,i think

that aside,
we don't know you and we don't how much you care about kof

if you're willing to put a lot of time into it to find out about the new combos, possibilities, changes, etc

or if you're just going to dismiss the game because omg that background sucks or because iori's fireball is slow as hell to come out

but then again, why am i even bothering after reading some of the replies people posted?

I almost ordered 01, but at the last second opted for 02' instead. After reading most of the post I think I made a wise choice.

well it's not like you can't own both

they're so different that you can't really make comparisons anyway

True, the last 2 I picked up was 99' and 2k0. Think my main reason with going with 02' was to get back to a non-striker KOF.

and not all the artworks in 2k1 sucks. there are actually some cool ones.

Fran is right. it all depends on what you're expecting form the game.
