Specs

Yeah, its tiny and non upgradable, but neither is most laptops. Can put a bigger hard drive in it (most likely a laptop drive) and more ram.

Its like an eMac without the monitor.

Yea I would love to get a better look at the specs for one of these things if the damn website worked properly. Think they're flooded much?

It's an eMac without the monitor AND keyboard/mouse! ;)
You do get the option to go with a slightly faster G4 processor though!

Awesome

This thing would be great hooked to a HDTV.

Introducing the Mac mini. Everything you need — and not an ounce more — to enjoy digital photos, music and movies. Get a fast G4 processor, slot-loading CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive and a reliable operating system in a body just 6.5-inches square and 2-inches tall. Simply add monitor, keyboard and mouse. You’ll be organizing music and photos, composing tunes and editing movies with iLife ’05 in no time. Surf the Internet with the peace of mind of the secure and stable UNIX-based Mac OS X operating system. And since Mac mini can do wireless, you don’t even have to put it near a phone jack. Configure your Mac mini with an AirPort Extreme Card, hook up an AirPort Express to your DSL connection or cable modem, and start surfing and printing wirelessly. Using AirPort Express and AirTunes, you can even listen to tunes from your Mac mini on speakers in a different room. Starting at just $499.

I guess it's cool... You still have to run all the normal cables to the box, taking away from the sleak look. Plus the power button's location would make is hard to reach in certain postions. The usb ports on the back also pose a problem (unless you prefer to reach around to plug in).

Just at the right time Apple releases a memory stick based iPod for <$100. Very very good.

Any VGA/DVI monitor will work on it.

The eMac has more value for your money though...

You can not fucking beat that price.

I've wanted a mac for some time. Now i'm sold (along with that new ipod).

I love those crazy design gurus at apple.

Exactly.
Problem is, since this new Mac Mini is so similar to the eMac (and given that the eMac is sort of an old model that's really competing with the flat panel iMac to some degree) it is likely that Apple will kill the eMac to streamline it's product lines a bit.
Honestly, it's not a big deal as you can get a cheap CRT or LCD display and keyboard/mouse combo for nearly the same price. Even the software bundle is similar.

You can easily pick up a nice monitor for less than the $300 difference between the eMac and the Mac Mini. This move is obviously in line with Apple's strategy of completely dumping the CRT. Think about this too: Apple will sell more of it's displays because of this thing.

Also in making this a G4, it doesn't cut into the iMac product line at all.

This Mac Mini just screams "Cube 2".

I think it's two different targets though......

If you look at the descriptions, they say almost all monitors and usb accessories will work with this sucker.

This is giving those people who have staved off those siren calls of 'upgrade, upgrade' to finally upgrade, and those who have staved off those siren calls of 'switch to a Mac, switch to a Mac' to finally switch to a Mac.

I kind of like it, and just about everything on it is passable performance-wise. But 32 MB of RAM on the video card??? That's just not good enough anymore.

Yes.
For you pirates out there, this setup will play your beloved roms as well as any machine out there.

Of course it isn't, but I have an eMac with the same exact specs and it can run most of the newest games rather well so don't discount it's game playing potential.

It probably won't be able to run the upcoming OSX version of DOOM3, but then again, neither can the $500 COMPAQ PC's that Wal-mart sells....

It won't, Doom 3 is G5 only
