PSOne drying up (discontinued)?

Seems like the slimline PSOne's are disappearing, and I hear mixed answers about whether Sony has stopped production on them or not. Before Christmas, I saw plenty of the combo packs around (bundle of system + LCD screen), and now PSOne's seem to be gone from everywhere (BB, Target, CC, EBGames, etc.). Anyone know the story on these, is Sony ending production on them or is this just an after-XMas shortage? :eye: :eye:

Probably just after X-mas shortage for now. But I've still found plenty of the LCD bundles in a few different stores. (Mostly K-Marts for some unknown reason.)

Stores still haven't had a good chance to restock up to normal. I went console hunting yesterday and hit eight stores before finding anything other than a few Gamecubes.

Wow, took long enough. It makes no sense, since PS2 plays PS1... wow, what a ride.

Yes I agree the new PSTwo is very slim and small, and you can get a nice LCD screen for that as well, but the PSOne + LCD is dirt cheap and even smaller than the PSTwo. I think PSOne + LCD is about $80 (system is $50, screen is about $35, combo pack is around $90), whereas a PSTwo with an LCD would probably run $250 or more, depending on the price of the screen, and would end up being a bit larger in size.

They've been sold out in Japan for the last year or so. I haven't seen one for sale (single or bundle) anywhere.

I'm sure in due time the a PS2 combo pack will be released for cheap. I'd say around the time the PS3 comes out. But yes, I know, you want it NOW

As long as you're not playing SS3 on the PS 1 ... man, what a fucking train wreck.

Wow that little LCD screen looks nice! I know it isn't the Sony brand LCD, is it a 5" screen also? Better than the Sony screen, or about the same? :drool_2:

Actually, the Sony LCD screen is twice as much as the actual unit. A used PSone sells for about $30 CDN but I can easily get $80 CDN for the Sony screen.

Has Sony announced a screen for the PStwo yet? Although I have a PS2, I'd like to get the new one if I can get a screen for it. I was hoping that the PS1 screen would be able to fit on it, even with an adapter, but I guess I'm SOL.

The Sony LCD screens are being blown out at all our local Toys R Us stores for $35 each. The system/screen combo was available for sale pretty cheap too, I think maybe $80-$100 total.

As for the PSTwo LCD screen, that is a great question. I'd think there would be one out already, would be a great combo of the slim system and a screen for easy travel! :drool_2:

Here are the specs (pasted from a website sellin them):

* 5.6-inch portable screen for PlayStation One
* Built-in speakers
* Headphone capability
* Built-in A/V mode switcher
* Mounting screws included
* Adjustable viewing angle
* 7.5V DC power required
* Cigarette lighter adapter not included

I don't remember exactly (been a while since I dug the system out of storage) but I think it comes w/ one adapter that u use to power the screen and playstation. But yeah the screen is a little bigger, very clear in person, pretty good sound and has external input support with a button to switch between the input two sources... so yeah in that pic I've got my AES hooked up to it. :)

Thanks for that info, can you give me a link to the website? And the make/model of the screen? :)
