I'm taking my GC, XBOX, and Saturn (as I play those all a ton.)

But I'm probably leaving my PS2,DC behind as I never play them and everyone else seems to have a PS2 anyway.

I'm probably going to leave my Neo hardware behind as well as its alot of shit to move in general and I'd be concerned about theft.

When you're dorming/When you dormed what did you leave behind ?, what did you take with you?

Would you/do you take your neo with you to college?

Dorm size is 13x13 and I can trust my roommate.

is a 27 inch too large for a room that size?

Should I buy a smaller tv when I'm there?

How important is it to call my roommate ahead of time to see what he's bringing?

If there is gonna be two of you sharing a 13 x 13 room, I probably wouldn't bring any gaming stuff at all. That's the kind of setup I had in Los Angeles, and the only thing related to gaming that I brought was my computer, and I was tripping over shit even then.

Yeah, if you have to bring your own TV, I'd say a 27" is too big. I'd go for a 20".

The other idea that crossed my mind was to bring an extra vga montior I have laying around instead of that and use my XRGB2+ with it (can probably find a TV tuning box for cheap with RCA output at radioshack or something)

Right now I have a 20" TV, My Neo, GC, DC, PC(lotta C's). It's all good. If you find a really good setup it can all be pretty good. I even wired a 5.1 sound system in for the pc, and as long as you keep the wires out of the way it works alright for me.

As for theft, I don't really have to worry about it because the school I go to (small, Christian) has no students with knowledge about the neo, and even then, few who would consider stealing it.

Where you going to school?

If you can find a way to use your monitor for gaming and computing, that would be ideal. My roommate actually brought a huge chest of drawers in initially (he was/probably still is a grade A fucktard), but eventually even his looney ass realized that space is a huge premium when you're living in a confined space like that. You may be able to deal with the extra stuff hanging around for awhile, but eventually it will drive you fucking nuts.

All I'm saying is that you should be as minimalistic as possible in a situation like that.

Gaming/Computing/TV I'd stuff everything into my desk.

The second monitor seems like the best option as I like to have the TV or Consoles going as I'm surfing the net. If I had to switch between it all, I wouldnt ever end up gaming or watching TV (I'm a PC dominant multitasker.)

I took my PS2 with me to the dorm. Both of the rooms I lived in were quite small, but there was enough room to set up a TV and my PS2 and my roommate's GC. It would've been cool to take my supergun and some PCB's but I wasn't gonna risk the theft of that stuff, plus the PCB's would take up too much space. I was worried about having my PS2 there, but it turned out okay. Some guys living below us on the basement floor had an X-Box stolen. Theft really isn't a big deal if you and your roommate make sure to lock your door. My second roommate was bad about that. He'd go down the hall to play Halo and leave our room unlocked. Anyone could have easily came by and stolen some shit without us knowing. Firebomber has a great story that I'll ask him to share about theft in his dorm over at Eatern Michigan.

Yarr. about that I'm guarenteed a solo dorm next semester so odds are I'll be taking *everything* with me as 13x13 isnt so bad if you're alone.

As for this semester I'm bring an old trunk for storage of random stuff(that I can lock with a padlock if I need to) as it was free (they recommend milk crates for that) but it's the same amount of space.

We had an Xbox and laptop stolen from our room. They door was unlocked and they came in at night. We were all pretty drunk that night so I guess we forgot to lock it. The xbox was easy to take I guess, they just unplugged all the cables and left them there, just taking the box and controllers.
The laptop required far more finess. The laptop was lying under the futon with someone sleeping on it. So I guess they had to crawl under there and grab it. The impressive part is how they took the ac adapter. It was plugged in to this flimsy adapter thing that would have fallen out on the guy on the couch if they just pulled it which means that they had to crawl over the guy to unplug it by hand. I don't know how he didn't wake up because he must have gotten the teabagging of a lifetime.

Moral of the story: Lock your fucking door, even if your inside.

That really sucks man.

Although given the fact I don't drink and I'm a light sleeper so I'd *really* like to see someone try that.

Did the buildings on your campus have electronic key cards?

No key cards. After 10pm they lock all the doors except the front one which requires a key that they give out to residents. They also have someone there to check IDs after the doors are locked. It's a stupid system with a lot of ways to get around it.

I'm still amazed that they even tried to take stuff from the room. There were _five_ guys sleeping in there. It was nuts.

Edit: By the way if there is something you are taking that has a large monetary value it would be wise to see what kind of insurance you can get on it for theft. The police won't do shit.

Yeah, I'm going to contact our home owners insurance provider on monday to see if our coverage extends up there as I at least want to cover my computer.

I wouldn't even bring the Neo Geo. It's not worth risking it especially if anyone has any idea of what it is. Or they might not know so it could get damaged easy since people can be incredibly stupid. The systems you mentioned bringing are good, but the only thing again I would be wary about with the Saturn is if you have any import titles that are of value. My main thing would be, to be very selective of valuable titles. Try to keep those down to a minimum and stick with more easily replaceable titles. Case in point, I knew someone who had their copy of Radiant Silvergun jacked out of their dorm.

But anyhow, my solution is simple, I won't dorm because I wouldn't be able to ever bring any personal posessions because of high value.

Ever consider that it could have been one of the five guys in the room?

I never have time to play my xbox, but with as many systems as I own, I only
took the box, madden and halo. Campus life keeps you much too busy to waste
time on that stuff.

A modded Xbox would be just about all you'd need in a dorm. That, and maybe a small TV/monitor of some type.

And yes,a 27" TV is way to big for a dormroom that size.

Get a Dell 2001FP LCD monitor. It's 20 inches of love (just like my cawk).

Hook your consoles and PC to it, and maybe bring the extra CRT to hook up as a second monitor.

The 2001FP lets you hook up S-Video and Composite stuff to it and then switch between video inputs. If you have the second monitor hooked up you could have it mirror your desktop and then switch the 2001FP to take input from a gaming console.

It also has DVI and VGA input so you can use the XRGB with it too and just hook the PC up via DVI.

Avoid bringing the Neo stuff, it's mega theft bait if someone knew what it was and second it's a lot of stuff to keep in a small space. Plus since you'd be playing them on a monitor anyway, just setup teh ROMZ on your PC and get some decent joysticks. That solves your Neo fix.

Good luck in school BTW.

Quick question, how are the refresh rates on those? Does S-video and composite look okay on them,gaming-wise?

I've been looking to get a decent LCD for my vertical shooting games for quite sometime now,but they all seem to suffer from poor refresh rate/horrible resolution, etc. :(

I've yet to hook anything up to it via S-Video or Composite, however my friend has and he said it looks like any other LCD TV.

It will be interpolated since your source won't be high res, and the panel is 1600x1200 native and has a 16ms refresh rate.
