I threw in the buck and ordered this item for my 16xxxx Neo Geo system from NCS and I can get the NTSC RGB cable elswhere. So while waiting for it may I ask the following questions:

1. Do I need the RGB mod for my neo?
2. How do I hook up the sound? I'm using a Pc monitor, so do I hook them to my Pc speakers? If so, what additional cables do I need?
3. For the Playstation 2, I have component cables from Sony would that be enoough or do I get another RGB cable for this system?

Thank you very much in advance

Just wait and see if you are pleased with the Neo's image before doing the RGB mod.

Yes, you need to cable from the XRGB to the PC soundcard. It comes with some cables (forget which) so you need to make sure you know what jack inputs to your soundcard.

The component cables will work ok. I haven't done the A-B comparison with the RGB cable but it looks good. I would expect the RGB cable to be best.

There is also a D-Terminal for the PS2. I would expect it to match the RGB cable.

I too have an XRGB2+ setup and Brent pretty much nailed it.

One thing you may want to keep in mind is that your RGB cable for the Neo will be mono, so if you want stereo, mute your XRGB2+ and run the sound for your system out of the stereo jacks directly to a stereo system.

It will sound much better this way.

Having stereo sound is not really important to me I'm more on eye-candy.

Since, I'm such a noob when it comes to a/v stuff can you tell me how to set this up step by step.

Here is what I have:

1. Neo-Geo
2. NTSC RGB cable
3. Pc Monitor

Thanks ;)

Its pretty simple.

Plug the Neo RGB cable into the 21 pin RGB spot on the XRGB2. Then connect your PC monitor to the VGA out port of the XRGB2.

Let me know if you need help with sound, or if I glossed over something too quickly.

Thanks, now what's the easiest way to have sound and would the serial number of the Neo come into play in terms of rgb quality?

Since a VGA monitor would be used, it might come up pixelated so what's the best set-up/configuration using the options of the XRGB2.

Thanks a lot :buttrock:

There should be a cable that comes with the XRGB2 plus that you can run from the sound out of the the XRGB2 (its a headphone jack), to a stereo. One end of the cable has a stereo headphone plug on it and one end has red and white stereo plugs.

I have heard that earlier model Neo's 90,XXX and earlier have good RGB output and those after have poor RGB. I did however overhear our own JMkurtz state that ALL AES units had poor RGB.

I have a 56,XXX unit and I am pleased with the picture. IMO, An early model AES connected to an XRGB2 plus will yield the best possible picture without actually modding your system.

A Neo running through an XRGB2 looks better than the s-video mod and MUCH better than the composite hookup.

As far as options are concerned, I have the brightness turned all the way up and black turned all the way down. Also, I have sharpness turned all the way down and scanlines turned all the way up. This way, your VGA monitor will emulate the look of a 15khz arcade monitor.

The XRGB2 is the perfect tool for an AES owner looking for a perfect picture out of their Neo. The money I spent on it was some of the best money I've spent on my Neo setup.

RGB truly is the way the Neo was meant to be played. All the bright colors and wonderful little details come out of the woodwork when you play in RGB for the first time.

Thanks, I have a 16xxxx Neo so I may have to go for the RGB mod. What freaks me out is, I may get similar results with the results I got from the Dc VGA box and my goodness when it came down to 2-D games it was freakin ugly(HUGE PIXELS). I don't have a stereo system in my office(hehehe ;) That's were I would hook up the Neo) so any option to get the sound out.

Btw, you have been a great help :buttrock:

No you won't. That's what the scanline option is for. Without scanlines it'll do what you are picturing. Don't worry, sleep well, etc... It's going to look better than you've ever seen it.
