What would some of you pros recommend? A know a good soldering iron is a must.
But I don't know much about what constitutes a good set of tools to cut holes in housings, etc., and I'd like to do a very clean job. Let me in on some of your secrets.

A good Uni-bit type device for your drill:

These step up from a really small, perhaps 1/8" all the way up to something like 1 inch or larger. Nice when drilling holes of various sizes plus they make clean, smooth holes. The shells on the 2 slot are slightly tough to drill through and these things chew through them like butter.

I have a 1/2" and a 1". Great to have, but the 1" is $$. I recently bought a couple cobalt drill bits that work nice too.

If you're going to be cutting holes in plastic other that round ones (ie, controller ports), definitely get a round file and a flat file. Also, for that Dremel tool, get the "high speed cutter" bit. Works great.

As far as soldering iron you'd do fine with the standard Radio Shack pen-tip type iron. They have a switchable 15/30 Watt iron that works really well actually.

Needlenose pliers.

Wire cutters.

Ive never made a consolized MVS set up, but would imagine a good quality hole saw bit for your drill would be a good start.
On the electrics, you will need a meter to set up your psu voltage.

dremel is king !
sorry, but mine was a pure waste. first time i used it, a cutting tool broke in pieces and one of those pieces headed right for my face. fortunately, i had protective glasses and a mouth quard on.
afterwards, i got a $25 diamond cutting tool for the $75 dremel and it still didn't really work all that great, when i wanted to use to with Dani's atomiswave.

use a file, if you want clean holes that are exactly the right size for your square switches or whatever you want to use. dremel is for lazy people, who don't care too much about the result.

You don't need to spend more than $15 on a Soldering Iron Either... Just get a cheap weller one.

I love me dremel. If you cutting crazy stuff get the reinforced cutoff wheels. I have the flexible shaft and it works great.

I need some of those unibits also. Do you suppose they'll work with a dremel?
