Anyone who's seen my older threads about the series knows that I'm the biggest fanboy in the world of the Tantei Jinguuji Saburou games, and was thrilled to find out that the 10th game in the series, "Shiroi kage no shoujo," is coming out at the end of this month. I absolutely loved "Kind of Blue," the 9th game that recently came out on the PS2, and was a bit dismayed to see that #10 is going to be on the GBA, but it looks fantastic.

Character design and style still has Terada Katsuya behind it, music sounds good in the opening movie, and the story (following on somewhat from Kind of Blue) seems interesting so far. I still find it odd that Team Jinguuji would want to do this on the GBA as opposed to the PS2, for instance, but it's a new Jinguuji Saburou game, so I'm happy. Suddenly I'm in the market for another SP...

Here's the Game Watch article about it, announcing the release of the opening movie, and the online playable demo:

Official site for the game - you can DL the opening movie, and in fact you can play the entire beginning part of the game, complete with BGM via a Flash app (click on the second box that says "click me":

Can you please educate about this series? Is it import friendly or is it a good reason to start learning Japanese? I am going to own a JP PS2 in a few days and would be interesting in learning about this game. I'm really lovin' the art style.

For some irritating reason my old Tantei Jinguuji Saburou thread was deleted in the big cleaning of threads a while back.

Anyway, the classic detective series started on the Famicom/Famicom Disk System, and went on to spawn a lot of sequels on the PS1, PS2, Saturn, and now GBA.

If you like hard-boiled crime stories, be-bop jazz, and general bad-assness, it's your series. Basically it follows the various cases of Shinjuku detective Jinguuji Saburou, his assistant Misono Youko, and various friends and associates (police officers, local Yakuza, etc).

Unfortunately, if you don't read Japanese fairly well, it will be a VERY hard series to get into. If you really dig detective text adventures, and you're learning Japanese, try the older Famicom Tantei Club games - they only presume a grade-school level of kanji reading, etc, but are fairly fun (they can be found as romzzz).

You could play the newest Jinguuji Saburou game for the PS2 ("Kind of Blue") just for the ultra-dope Terada Katsuya art, the AMAZING music, and atmosphere, but without the story, it wouldn't be much fun.

Check out the Kind of Blue site here:

Download the opening here, and prepare - it's fucking incredible (It's the lower second set of two links). Absolutely great game:
