I think Sony doesn't have the slightest idea on how much they will charge for PSP in the US since I believe they made such a huge loss in Japan with 185$ price on their PSPs, and seeing that the software titles did not break the ice in hanging in top 10 sales in japan, I think PSP launch in Japan was very damaging financially.
I also think Sony doesn't have a clue when it will be capable produce PSP's in full production because of scarcity in it's hardware components, for a worldwide release. Even Sony's own official press talks during the CES were vague and careful at most when talking about expectations in sales/release i thought it would be some big fuckin annoncement but they didnt tell shit. There was no mention of price, because they don't know how much all this will cost them in the end. If UMD movie/music discs become a flop, even a more terrible venue for Sony.
Common, who here is really going to buy retail UMDs, I bet you all going to "lend" movies from your friends and copy it to a Mem stick and play it like that. Sony being part of that RIAA and giving people the chance to rip movies and music and upload them to it's handheld is a satire in the making.
I don't understand how Sony will recover it's losses, and if the sales in the US are small and inventory small as well. All I can spell is "doom".
I really don't know what Sony is doing, but 2005 will not be a good year. Especially with PS3 not coming out until end of 2006. early 2007. XBOX 2 is closing in for a release and DS making huge sales , Sony will have to battle two fronts this time.
Should I feel sympathetic to Sony? Let's put it this way, would anyone miss EA if they went bankrupt? (Not saying Sony will, far from it)
